magento.. massive feature list, robust, plenty of free themes, loads of easy to install extensions.

I also would +1 for magento, it is perhaps the Swiss army knife of shopping carts, with no end of features, backed with a good track record and scalable to fit your business needs both now and in the future.

 

Templates are a breeze and the support/manual covers almost every option in great depth so it is great for those new to such systems.

As good as Magento is, don't you find soem client's simply find the admin panel far far too involved and complicated?

 

I honestly had a client call me and say they simply couldn't use it as they were overwhelmed.

 

I couldn't honesty say that I haven't had users, that have found magento difficult out of the box, but then again I could say the same for Joomla (especially pre 1.5) and other carts or even wordpress.

 

I think such systems do have a level of necessary complexity, however magento does have a good trade off between the level of complexity to the functions it provides and as before the scale to which it can support future operations.

 

Also there are a large range of support options available in terms of manuals, forums, designers and even hosts because its popular enough that most of us have sources of information we ourselves can use or pass on to aid users or in-depth knowledge from personal or professional use.

 

I suppose it's a catch 22 in terms of do you provide a system that will support a user in the future (by which point the admin panel would be second nature) or something simple now that in the future lacks the options they require?

 

I would hazard the former simply as change is costly and users will understand the initial difficulty if you can explain the long-term benefit (even builders ), I would simply add you need a lot of patience and understanding however with such users

I began to work with Prestashop. It's really good and user-friendly. My customers are happy to use it for business. I think it's good solution for Ecommerce.

Having worked on several shops in the past i can say that the best overall one i prefer to use is OpenCart, it's got a simple back-end as well so your clients wont become overwhelmed. Magento is good to as is prestashop.

Our community also began to develop templates based on OpenCart system. I hope soon our customers will appreciate the all benefits of this shopping Cart

Im new to web design (have done it at college but not much experience). Can you build a website and then use the shopping cart software to add a basket to your already made website?

I don't agree with you, as example my customers prefer to buy products based on VirtueMart, PrestaShop and osCommerce systems. Although I have products based on Magento, Zen Cart, Tomato Cart, OpenCart systems, but they are not so popular.

Sorry, but you talked about all merchants, not just about your customers. That's why I am not agree. Maybe I understood you wrong

I prefer Magento because it is robust; the software platform has a lot of modules, a big community. It is easy to add new modules and to evolve the website. There is a big community.

I am going to try Magento CMS. Can you discribe all advantages and disadvantages?

I was once asked to make a product feed in PHP that would import products from supplier to SQL via XML feed provided b the supplier. Now I am absolutely rubbish at parsing XML I hardly understand it lol, is there any shopping cart that provides a parser that displays all the xml tags and then you choose which field to put which tags. Does that make sense. This would be very useful i think.
