February 20, 201016 yr As has been discussed before there are several types of member participating in the forum. There are those that are here who participate to help others, hopefully in return for help they received now or in the future. There are those who are here for what they can get ..... job seekers etc! Could I ask members to +1 members who have provided help/solutions to problems. This will enhance the individuals forum reputation which will help diffentiate those members who contribute from thos that don't. Soory mods, just noticed I posted this in the wrong forum .... please don't -1 me.
February 20, 201016 yr One thing that annoys me though is people saying "if you like this give me a +1". Its like they are only posting in order to get their reputation up. What does this rep actually go towards though? And can you view it any other way that viewing their profile?
February 20, 201016 yr HogIt - no worries about posting up in the wrong forum - at least you acknowledged it and it has now been moved to GC. @ MrChristoph: the reputation doesn't actually go towards anything really - just in someones profile. BUT I do consider the reputation to be a big thing on the forum, which is why I have the +1 thing in my sig. I like to know I have helped people and that my response has been appreciated. It might be a vain thing, but everyone is different. I just like the look of my shiny green 1 by my posts when I know I have helped someone out There will probably be a few ways of showing the reputations in the next few builds of the forum (don't quote me!) - but it is a nice community touch if you ask me
February 20, 201016 yr If you intend to put more emphasis on the rep then you'll need to make the '+' button more eye-catching. I have never noticed it before now. The current size/location of the + button comes from the default templates so many IPB based forums will be similar. Saying that everything could be changed but that's really down to the forum owners Also, the rep thing would be a good way of stopping the people who only come here to bid on the projects, let's say you need a rep of 10 or more to bid. Interesting idea, I'm not sure if IPB has config settings for that but it's worth putting into the ideas pot...
February 24, 201016 yr I too have never noticed the +1 system on this forum. I will now +1. When I find out where it is.
March 8, 201016 yr I just added a signature pic just before coming to this post! I see no problem with it, and it educates newcomers about the rep system by having it.
March 20, 201016 yr I think we should be able to give -1 too, for completely useless posts. (Such as the 3rd post in this thread...)
March 20, 201016 yr We actually used to have a negative rep button, but it was removed as some people didn't like it.

March 24, 201016 yr To me the Reputation System is purely random - I'm sure members helping newbies don't get credit (reputation points) for helping out, so don't gain a reputation? On the other hand, it annoys me when I see "please +1 me" in a post it is tantamount to begging, looks tacky and detracts from the thread Does having fewer Rep Points make you less helpful than someone who begs points to gain a rep? For me, if I see a reply acknowledging your help, that's worth more than a Rep Point (the acknowledgement remains with the thread and can be seen in the future)
March 24, 201016 yr I defintely agree guys. It is good to be acknowledged when you have helped someone but it sucks when you're only doing it to get a +1. Then again lots of different kinds of ppl in this world huh? I used to get peed off a while back (when I had time and sleep lol!); I'd spend ages helping someone with some css or html problem. No big shakes but then not even a post back to say thanks. RUDE! So tbh I neither have the time nor the energy anymore. There are lots of people here that are great and will help anyone without a second thought. Unfortunately, many people join here, ask for help with stuff, take it, and run which is BIG HAIRY PANTS. And this I think is when we get fed up and feel that maybe we should have some sort of tangible reward for our helpfulness. You think? (Sorry did I rant?? )
