I've used NOD for about 5 years and had no viruses on my computer.

Spyware is a different issue because it has so many ways of getting on to your system - use Spybot S&D to remove spyware regularly.

 

Make sure your antivirus is always kept up to date, and obviously just be careful when browsing the Internet, and when downloading stuff.

Most of them arent viruses anymore malware is the pain. I use malwarebytes anti-malware, avira anti-virus and spybot and make sure you are fully up to date with all patches with windows.

Really? I've used it for years and it works fine.

 

You say you've tried Norton, NOD and AVG. How about McAfee's software? The only other one I can think of is Kaspersky.

 

Tbh I find virus protection a bit overrated, unless you're deliberately downloading dodgy looking files; clicking adverts in pop-up's; downloading attachments from people you don't know etc then you'll be fine.

 

I've never actually had a virus in my whole time using computers. Just be sensible.

Current versions of McAfee's and Norton's Internet Security Suites work fine.

Actually there are viruses out there specifically for linux,and even MAC's arent safe, the whole reason that windows is plagued is because it has such a substantial market share compared to all the other OS's.

Do you think the virus coders will give up just because people have moved to linux? no you will find that more and more viruses are made for linux.....

What's the point in making a virus that only targets blonde haired men aged 43 with a mole on the left cheek and a tattoo of a man on their left arm when you can make a virus that targets man and women full stop.

 

AVG used to have the best score at detecting viruses above symantec and mcafee but now its absolute rubbish...

I now use avira free and find it excellent.

many times i have scanned my USB on different antivirus and all of them found different viruses or ad-ware n spyware. I m using Norton corporate edition for virus and Ad-Aware by lavasoft. I havnt tried AVAST....lets c

Trouble is some files can have similar characteristics to viruses and get flagged for no reason, i refuse to use norton or mcafee as they embed themselves so deeply into the OS that removing them because of a problem or subscription ending can cause the OS to become unstable.

AVAST and Avira are both good solid examples of anti-virus software but like everything they only help.

Most problems nowadays have to have some sort of user intervention in order to work...

 

The ones i generally encounter are web page generated especially the newer PDF ones that try and use adobe reader to open and run code but vista already blocks that.

The ones i hate are the ones that wont let you navigate away from a page without clicking a box etc i just use task manager to shut down IE and problem goes away.

Out of interest how many of you look at the header info of e-mails to check where they have come from?

I daily chk my mails and i know who sent them .....OKI....AVAST......here i come !

After problems with all Anti-Virus in the world I finally found Avast, uses the least memory out of all (not that matters if you have a lot of ram like me) does scans in the background without even realizing as well as updates, it's s*** hot never had one problem since getting the badboy, oh and it's free.

AV software normally doesn't flag something up unless it thinks it's dodgy... Usually this will only happen with stuff downloaded via P2P networks.

 

As for removing them - if they don't completely uninstall simply do a Google search for the "removal tool" for whatever AV software you use; McAfee and Norton both offer them free of charge and they've always removed any incomplete installations for me.

Spoken like a true linux virgin. I developed all my clients sites using nothing but linux. It's not totally virus free, but compared to windows it might as well be. You should give it a try...

Forget WINE, use Virtualbox or VMware but you'll need a decent amount of RAM if you're going to run (Photoshop?)

I've used AVIRA premium/NOD 32. Always update your anti virus and take in mind to be careful on downloading and putting mass storage on your computer, that's when virus penetrate.

Many of our clients use AVAST - [free version] and we have not heard any bad reports todate.

for free avast isnt too bad, however the fastest and probably best AV on the market at this time is Nod32.

 

Use it in combination with malwarebytes (free) and you will stay safe and your pc will not become bogged down. We sell a LOT of nod32 licenses and have found it to be extremely reliable.

After looking for ways to not pay anything for a program to remove virus, I eventually downloaded ZenOK Free Antivirus and it keeps my pc secure, from what I have experienced it does better than other paid software I had.

Avast is the best. Try its free trial before purchasing ofcourse. I didn't get a single bug while using its trial.
