Just be interesting to hear what each of you hate the most abotu freelancing / running a business?

For me it would be paper work & accounts! I really don't like doing them!

Yup! I hate the paperwork and accounts too...... :angry3:

I went for 'other' and I'm going for spam. Spam emails, phone calls and letters from all sorts of drongos (usually Indian SEO companies) offering totally inappropriate stuff to "dear sir/ madam". Can't even be bothered to find out who I am or what Ido but try to convince me with semi-literate generic crud that they've got the answers for me.

:fool:

Of course I hate tax, but you gotta pay that anyway. My paperwork is pretty simple but then again I've built several such systems in my time for companies and so suffice to say I've got my own pretty streamlined.

Yeah... forgot about that aspect...... the bloody phone calls from someone called "Bob" who can barely speak English, offering to take work from me, promising it will be to the same standard (Their site is tables for gods sake!!)

Pisses me off more when they ring at 9 o'clock at night!

Most annoying bit for me is chasing the ones that dont pay, but its just part of the job. I must have spent nearly 8 hours last week sending out notices, checking if the bank transfers have come in.

On the other hand, ive got a client i am working with right now who is brilliant, he answers the phone immediately, and is constructive, also doesnt move the goalposts with a "i need this changed"

Just have to take the good with the bad.

I chose talking to clients, though I don't mind it when I have cooperative clients, I just don't like the ones who expect you to work for peanuts and expect you to know exactly what they want without giving you any input for example I did a site for a content production company a while ago and the woman who contacted me in regards to the web site said there is nothing I need to take into consideration when I asked if there are any specific colour schemes, layouts etc. that they want implemented, then when I present the prototype she turned around to me and said "It is nice but I wanted the text to be pink.", I think I saw red at that point.

Anything that didn't involve doing the designing of the website.

I was about to set up my own company; I didn't like the thought of all the other work that would be needed to obtain clients, receiving payments and all the extra fluff that was business-management. Which is why it was very easy to me to accept the job as a modelmaker when I was offered it.

Wouldn't it be great in a perfect work if there was a dedicated business manager for everyone? ;)

I absolutely hate phone calls. I don't hate talking to my clients, but it seems like they always call at the wrong time and if I don't answer then I am "bad at communication".

I put into all of my contracts that my primary contact method is email. Because some but not all, clients will abuse the phone method.

- people emailing/calling me, getting me to outsource work to their "offshore development centers"

- people trying to sell me ad space in their crappy websites/directories

- waste of space clients who are just dreamers and not do-ers

Actually my gripe pretty much is with people in general I think LOL

What I hate most are clients who don't pay and are rude in not answering calls or followup emails. We all work hard for our families or for the dedication for our work and this just spoils your day.

after some thought, i would have to say dealing with difficult clients is the thing i absolutely hate most (about any job, really).

i actually googled 'stupid clients' yesterday out of frustration, hoping i could find a way to cope and came across this gem (the first site that popped up!):

i agree. i've had people go somewhere else without the common courtesy of letting me know / cancelling the job. (note: if i don't get a deposit, the most they do is apologize for wasting my time AFTER i've emailed asking where they went and i don't see any money).

i'd like to note that i love talking to the nice, reasonable clients who are ready and willing to pay for your services.

Agreed!

I pressed 'marketing' before I pressed 'other' by accident.

What I really hate about freelancing is the fact that you work from home. Family members bug you and annoy you, and distract you from your work and they think you've got it all just because you're working at home... How wrong are they? Freelancers work their cocks off to try and earn a decent living and nobody seems to appreciate that apart from other freelancers.

voted other: its when the client has been what I call 'blue sky thinking' and moved the goal posts on me and dreamt up some new idea which is easy to think up - hard to implement :angry3:
