after some thought, i would have to say dealing with difficult clients is the thing i absolutely hate most (about any job, really). i actually googled 'stupid clients' yesterday out of frustration, hoping i could find a way to cope and came across this gem (the first site that popped up!): http://www.clientcopia.com i agree. i've had people go somewhere else without the common courtesy of letting me know / cancelling the job. (note: if i don't get a deposit, the most they do is apologize for wasting my time AFTER i've emailed asking where they went and i don't see any money). i'd like to note that i love talking to the nice, reasonable clients who are ready and willing to pay for your services.

in a committed relationship. i gotta say to a couple of you guys, invest in a second pc! i don't live with my significant other, but i can't imagine sharing a computer with him. if we do decide to live together our office is definitely going to have 2 desks, if not it'll be in 2 separate rooms. i like my space. don't get me wrong, we're incredibly patient and compromising with one another (and i suppose i would share if i had to) but i appreciate the convenience of having unlimited access to my design / work.

i'm sorry to hear the name you wanted was taken! i hate settling. i've always loved the saying 'pure as driven snow' (not to assume you would want a name that long). anyway, i like to use play on words for names, maybe choosing an aspect of photography and an aspect relating to snow could work. i do not suggest using 'flakey images', but i'm sure you get what i mean.

i'm trying to eat healthier. when i'm meeting a deadline i'll often reach for an energy drink. i'm trying to moderate my caffeine intake. i could exercise more, too, but when i can't find time i feel better knowing i'm not eating crap and glued to my desk for 10 hour days.

oh gross, is WYSIWUG referring to all the filler that happens when you 'magically' press a button and all your coding is worked out for you? creating mounds of unnecessary coding? i had to wikipedia what that even meant (correct me if i'm wrong because i'd like to know) but i think i got the gist of it. i found that a bit intimidating and unappealing with any editor (not to mention lazy) i'd rather know it's done right the first time and understand it character for character than to have a jumbly mess of code. and as long as this forum is active i'm sure i'll be around. seems pretty active.

i can't recall the last time i bought maple syrup. it just appears in my fridge, actually. nobody in BC really pays much attention to that culture - it's more of an ontario/quebec thing, it must have been a high caliber syrup at $11 (depending on the quantity involved.) i remember paying $12 CAD for an espresso in london, i know those are cheaper here. oh, canada. ;p whatever tool i'm using, i'm still handcoding and viewing it later anyway. i'm sure it's not too important at my level. btw. i am reading all your comments in a really great uk accent. you had to know.

i've bought quite a few books on CSS which keep me occupied. thanks for the tip on notepad++, i saw it mentioned on a tutblog recently but have never used it. i've used DW, but i'm not well versed in it (got a book on that, too) nor do i know if i should be? is DW a BIG no? i read that tables should never be used, and that threw off almost everything i knew, so i'm trying to rethink everything. bah! hah. as far as resources go, i'm a big lynda fan. it's nice to see people using other resources than university/college.

thanks for the welcomes. i apologize for the round heads, i take full responsibility for that one. i went backpacking in europe & the UK last april - it was nice to be on the other side! i may have misunderstood the area of expertise option, as i'm a graphic designer and it didn't read 'webdesigner' so design it is. anyway, i love to code. i am partial to notepad, i've recently bought a few books in order to teach myself more in-depth coding and programs to help me along. so far all i'm familiar with is html, (& the basics of) xhtml & css. i want to learn all facets of web developing & design, respectfully that isn't possible in a short amount of time, as it isn't exactly limited. i'm always keeping my eye out for tips. there are SO MANY DETAILS and it's easy to become overwhelmed. as far as webpages go, i've only ever mastered my own diaries and blogs. i bought a domain / server very recently, it's empty, but i'm hoping to make it my practice grounds. i work full-time, and instead of daydreaming about formal training, i decided to teach myself along the way. i was just reading another post where a member mentioned how fast things change, and that current methods aren't always being taught in schools, so most of the people here are self-taught? if that's true i have some hope!
