Just the words!

Content's the stuff that goes in the pretty shiny things! :D

This is mental. When will it stop! :o Does this woman have a Twitter? I found mentioning directly to them on there proves fruitful as they tend to poop themselves being named and shamed directly.

I had to laugh because this is freaking nuts! I had no idea it was so widespread and popular. Does anyone know if you can get money from these people?

Maybe it is people on WDF that are seeing links in your signatures and deciding to use designs/copy.

Might be an idea for some admin/mods to see if they can find any email addresses on these websites to check against WDF accounts.

I imagine you could invoice & bill them as soon as you spot theft, for theft of copyrighted material.

But if you gave them and ultimatum such as "Take it down or Pay up" from past experience of these people, you can bet they'll take it down and not want to pay.

Or the other route is to file a small claims straight away.

But saying, that the court might look at it as "You didn't give them a chance to apologise and take it down" so they might see it as if you've gone in full guns blazing.

This might be an idea, put a small notice on your site saying "If you like this design, perhaps you'd like to pay for it rather than steal it?" and link it up to a PayPal account or whatever and hook it up to a digital file delivery script that emails them it :)

But I suppose that depends on how much you want to be unique and not share your design, no matter how good it is

So true and so crap, its theft and should be treated like that by the courts.

I agree - If you steal something, the shop usually press charges do they not? (I don't know, never been in that situation myself ) . So, therefore, an apology and giving it back doesn't fix it, you usually end up in jail or with a fine. Yet, when it comes to intellectual property, it's not even a slap on the wrist.

I say we set up a crack team of commandos ready to defend our WDF name and personal online activity.

We call our selves the ABC team and thats right with implication accross all letters of the alphabet.

wth lol don't ask.

Srsly though guys, we should do something like that and watch each others back. As soon as the original owner is a victim, they obviously dictate the pace of things, but as soon as they give the word for us to go do our thing.

We blog about it, contact the thief call them profanities and laugh at their lack of skill / talent / creativity or whatever.

At least their pride will be dented as much as our drive and passion for the the job has been dented.

Sorry to hear about your issues Helen. *cat fight

Yup this is rubbish def got to make these ppl squirm and suffer!

Where's Phil and Grant Mitchell when u need em?

We can hire someone to 'sort' them out!

there is a very lucrative market in personal seo, where companies make loads of sites for a specific name so they control the info people see when they google say.. tom jones. it involves blackhat attacked on the sites with bad info so they get banned by gogle and creating a lot of blogs etc referencing the name. I think it starts at about £50k pa or sumin tasty like that.

but anyways, we could do the oposite and name and shame these people, we get their names through who.is and promote it like hell so when empoyers et al google them they come up as a thief. might need to host it in russia or something but it could be a black list of peoples names with evidence, ofcourse we will let them tell their side of the story but then it will go to a vote . lol that would be fun and would work as a great deterant if it became popular.

start a thread and express ur ideas!

What for everyone to steal them?? lol This needs to be a small group project, otherwise we will be running around like headless chickens.

Too many cooks spoiled the broth, even though they were all Michelin starred :)

teehee the perp seems to have removed the offending material, and left a small stain in her undies!

The websites are relatively different in their design, if a section of text has been copy/pasted then it would be quite difficult to take reasonable action

However, if entire pages in their entirety had been copy/pasted then a copyright notice could be served

I would suggest simply contacting the owner and requesting they amend their current copy so that it is unique, however they would not be obliged to do so

I disagree, i know many professional copy writers and they take this sort of plagiarism very seriously.

Imagine an author copy a paragraph of another book to use in the intro to their new book and not even quoting it as a source...

I still can't see any direct copying

The designs are completely different, and although the text appears similar it is not identical

That's because dearest Jane-Shearman has removed the offending text since this thread was started. You can still view a chached version though, where you can clearly see the first paragraph is identical to Helen's.

Utter plagiarism, that is beautifully crafted copy and any copy writing professional would charge a fair few quid for it.

:blush1:

It's actually very reasonably priced indeed!

Oh, and pinching copy (text) is just as bad as pinching designs - we all work hard to craft things of beauty that shouldn't be pinched by someone with less talent. It also means that the competitive edge that we provide is diluted each time.

In fairness on this one... the site owner didn't realise and was passed the copy from someone else who told her it was legit. So, be warned folks... if someone offers you some memorable, engaging and effective web copy in the pub carpark - it's hooky! And she took it down immediately without need for thumbscrews and sounded genuine/ nice.

Yeah that's what she says... Personally I think it is an easy way out for a blatant thief to escape criminal action. I've heard it all before, blah blah blah thieving gyspie* cough

Refer to my earlier post!!!!

I've just come back from an afternoon of 'client schmmoozing' (i.e. lots of beers) and so want, right now, to believe in the lovely fluffiness of human nicety... I'll go back to my usual self tomorrow!!!

Yeah buddy, i could send you the pms that were pretty much along the same lines... Like you I wanted to see the good and I had a state of calm for a while, but at least you have perspective in your sights and know your feelings will retort.

Very refreshing indeed. Have a good night and roll on the Summer :) *clink clink

I'm happy to see that this issue has been resolved, it put my hopes up that people do admit their mistakes and correct them, rather than take the cowardly way out and ignore the person they have wronged in hopes that it will go away...
