Proton Gun (protongun.com) stole my design

Featured Replies

Off the back of Dizi's post detailing the recent theft of her awesome layout I'd like to point the finger at a recent theft of the Rawkes layout.

Daniel Saxil-Nielsen of Proton Gun (Here is a Google cache version) has blatantly taken many elements from Rawkes in the design of his website. It's obviously a compliment to see my work being reproduced but the obvious similarities have forced my hand into taking action. So far I've notified him on twitter and also written a blog post about the situation.

Why do people feel the need to do this?

I think he may know about this post and forum, since Proton Gun results in a 403 Forbidden error and google cache displays sans styles!

I can confirm the site is down now. The cache should be working fine though.

GRR to him, its annoying when it happens, I think it is even worse to see something that you have crafted and put effort into the little details be turned into a poor shadow of itself in a badly crafted rip off. Not that a direct rip is a good thing, but to have see your site in such a state made me sad.

I had a look at the Google cache you linked - looks like he had the courtesy to delete his copy

I accept his apology but unfortunately it doesn't mean I won't push this any further. I'm still debating whether to take this to his host…

Just visited and found

seems he is very apologetic good thing he had the manners to delete it. I have seen your site btw, very nice ;)

You guys (those who have been ripped off) should consider posting the rips to ripperhunting.com and publicly naming and shaming them. If more people feared being shamed publicly, then maybe less people would create rip offs of other people's hard work.

At least the guy had the decency to apologise and take the site down once he'd been found out though, rather than debate it like some do.

Wow this forum gets better by the day.

@Rawkes a.k.a Rob - You are a design celbrity, great work with your site!

I've had this done, not exactly the same way as in it was client work they refused to pay but instead they stole the files of my server and used it on their site. It wasn't a copycat just downright theft.

However a company I have freelanced as a coder recently had their work stolen by a member of this forum.

The site was www.roberthenry.org and the steal was www.thespice-mill.co.uk since then the theif has edited the design slighty, but initially it was almost a complete pixel by pixel copy.

Sucks to be a thief, sucks more so to be a victim.

Keep up the good work, don't know what do in your situation with the RobHenry example i contact the forum member and let him know how things stand, he seemed pretty apologetic (i guess because he got found out and the legal implications) i guess the edits are enough on that one.

Anyway horrible situation but keep re-inventing the web!

Bloody hell! It's rife!

Everyone get checking your site!

This happens all the time! I dont see nothing wrong with using some one elses site for inspiration... but if they copied your design and elements 100% then I'd also wouldnt be very happy

Your site looks great though man you should be happy people are using it as inspiration!

Don't think I'm in any danger of that...

Ta! I'll get round to sprucing it up a bit eventually. Everyone was very helpful here regarding using php for a menu, so there's hope for me yet.
