Can anybody recommend a website that has cheap domain registration and is reliable enough not to go out of business anytime soon ? I've heard of a place ( on this board ) that registers for $1.99 but haven't been able to find the post.

However, you may want to try 1and1.co.uk - they seem to be one of the major players in the hosting industry, and are unlikely to go bust anytime soon

I use 1and1 for domains

GoDaddy no doubt. It costs only £5 for a .com domain, and nameservers usually are updated in minutes.

I use 123-reg.co.uk and also 1and1.co.uk.

 

Had a problem with 123-reg.co.uk auto-renewing domains, which caused me to lose 2 domains with personal value. But apart from that havn't had any troubles.

Best one I have found is www.thetopdomainshop.com

 

$1.99/year with no max no domains, if you buy something else (such as hosting or even v cheap email package). Brings the costs right down

+1 to namecheap ! Price is reasonable. Service are great. Already moved all my domains from Godaddy to namecheap !

Crazy domains have been around for quite a while now, so they're probably reliable enough. I have several domain names with them and so far no problems.

I think the most important thing with domain registrars is to read their small print carefully.

Some companies such as Go-daddy are very prompt to sell off your .com if you're late renewing, and late renewals are quite common.

Make sure you get a good idea of what their renewal policy is, a good company would normally allow you to go one month over without incurring any extra cost, and some companies will extend that to 2months. After that, you may find yourself paying around 80 pounds extra to get your name back, but companies such as Go daddy promptly sell your domain names to cyber squatters, the worse thing that can happen, as they'll sit on your name for years.

Just read the small print to help make up your mind.
