Joomla
Hi All, I can say like most I have used Joomla years ago and hated it. You may well be correct about the code base now but I cannot see any change in the admin approach of the Joomla CMS. Which in my opinion is also horrible. Any customer I have used a Joomla site for ended up having me do all the admin because of this. Your experiences maybe different but most small to medium enterprises go out of their way to push the computer stuff to the site designer/developer. Certainly that is what I have found. If this is how you operate then that is all OK and keep doing what you do as they say For me and possibly others on here. Writing a bespoke solution allows you to take the user experience into consideration and provide the interfaces that allows you to walk away leaving admin with the business. Because it is bespoke however you are also selling a completely different service and the costs involved are generally reserved for larger companies prepared to invest in a good website not the "We need a website category". I do hope you don't find what I am saying off hand as Joomla does provide a function in the market space. If you understand how it works inside that is great but please try to understand, it not only clamps the companies aspirations in terms of admin and usage but also your own. I would suggest to a new start up to potentially use joomla for the sake of presence but then would be looking to develop a bespoke solution that suits everyone’s needs. This in the end benefits you as a site developer/designer as the code base is yours and if done well will make assist you in gaining larger and larger projects. Which I am sure you will agree cannot be a bad thing I all preference in the end I guess. But please.... Everyone has opinions and they are ALL entitled to them. No one is saying your right or wrong to be fair Be excellent to each other! Robert Craig

A bit of help please guys
Hi Fuzzy Logic, For the record I think everything you have said is fair and as far as I can tell good design is a fundamental requirement of any successful site. I also believe the business model also needs to be robust. As you know I have the business model but not the design. Also I do not have the time for or the cash flow to make the design occur in a time frame that suites my discovery time lines. This is largely my fault I think for taking the thread of topic. Although in my defence for the sake of getting on I have given ground to both sides but do recognise this thread is about design and not the business model. My apologies for allowing the thread to go off track I have really valued everyone’s input, honestly. So I do hope I can engage again further as the need arises many thanks, Robert

A bit of help please guys
- A bit of help please guys
I have been beating my head against web project after web project for almost 15 yrs now. I think I have managed to hit almost every trap possible. But now find myself in the dare I say it "Guru" position. You know the ads I mean - "I have the secret to untapped wealth bla bla". Well how surprised am I to have finally found one. So I do apologise if I sound like I am talking a little nonsense I am still trying to absorb its potential. Honestly I think most Guru stuff is nonsense! Not least because I have personally fell for a lot of it. Its not a get rich quick scheme but a little twist in logic I never considered. Its mostly offline to be fair but all I will say at this stage is I lost the plot with hosting reseller company I deal with because I wanted to do something they apparently would not entertain. I contacted the managing director of the site because I was so annoyed and to my surprise I unearthed a peach of an opportunity. You will all know soon enough when I crack it open. But until then I must stay quiet in order to carve my future out first. Thanks for all your help guys. Really I mean it. Maybe over time I will give a little more detail but just not now- A bit of help please guys

Hi Nick welcome- A bit of help please guys
I do hope no one felt I was being off hand with them I am new here and do wish to do a good job and build my business successfully. I knew I had to discuss this in a forum that had the skills to best advise. So thanks all for the input. So the decision is to go vanilla just now until I understand the true nature of the business in terms of customer base and the fuller service model. I am sure you all will understand that sometimes we find ourselves with the horse standing behind the cart. But I also think you all appreciate timing is also important and without the full skills in this area I have to accept that there will be some deficit in what I am approaching. One question still remains out with the original remit of my question and that is I feel I will have to discuss the business with someone in terms of achieving the design goal I require and will likely look in these parts for that service. With that in mind is there a ball park figure for a consultative design process that I need to be aware of? All going well there will be plenty of cash flow for next year to approach this again and I would like to maul over the potential costs. once again many many thanks everyone that has given input be excellent to each other! thanks, Robert Craig RCS Web Hosting PS I almost missed the question on the acronym I am using..... Robert's Computer Shop. I have a plan also for Roberts Coffee Shop and so RCS is an important aspect of my business name. The reasons as I said previously are at this stage *Top Secret* but rest assured I am a very happy camper with what I have found- A bit of help please guys

Hi Davep, I'm not gonna justify the hows and whys here but yes the idea is born and therefor so is the company. Clearly I do not have the skills you mention but do have the gap in the market and am not willing to miss it. I understand where you are coming from so please understand I am trying my best here to fill a presently untapped gap in the market that I have came across. *Top Secret* so no asky Its web hosting btw I am trying as I say. Advice is good as well but I have a reality and not an ideal to deal with I guess I am asking too much in the end and for that I do apologise in advance but as I say I need to move on this ..... many thanks, Robert Craig- A bit of help please guys

Hi Fuzzy Logic, Whoa that is a lot of research and the timer is already running I can see from your profile that you know what you are talking about but the skeleton without any meat means a huge set back in time for me and I do not have a lot of that. I am grateful for your insightful response however I guess it's just going to have to best foot forward and hit the bumps along the road.... many thanks, Robert Craig- A bit of help please guys
Hi guys, I have just very very recently started on the road to launching my own web hosting and web design company. The main job just now is get my branding looking the part and I would welcome any help or advice around this The company name is RCS so I guess RCS Webhosting is the suscinct name for the hosting service. Problem is I am in danger of just using a font and cracking on but I really want to have an eye catching logo that people can identify with. So what sort of things are good and what are not. I realise I am not providing any ideas myself here but I don't want to colour the air with a preconceived notion of what I think works and would rather here what you guys think. Any help as I say would be brilliant. Also happy to talk about giving a wee corner of the hosting universe away to someone if they felt empowered enough to do a logo and I like it. Many thanks for reading this Robert Craig RCS Web hosting- Where to find clients : websites with inquiries
This is just the sort of information I am looking for many thanks guys... Would love for you guys to give me some sort of idea how and what you are charging today for a website design and also hosting I really need this to work many thanks, Robert Craig - A bit of help please guys
