Dipping my toes in the water :)
But please be kind . This is a mix of two Wordpress themes, combined to do what I wanted them to do: The Blog Shoppe I know it doesn't validate, I hope to learn that next, though some of the WP widgets just don't validate, anyway. Thanks for input and constructive criticism.

Hosting my own blog with my own domain
Another vote for Wordpress! I use it, install it, customize it, it's so flexible and there are TONS of themes out there. With the improvements they made to v2.6, it's even better.

In search of Feedback vol. 2
Why not get some nice stock photos of fabric and make a more relevant header? Even a nice background instead of the white. For people looking for fashionable fabrics, I'd think they'd be looking for something really visually appealing and this, to me, is really plain. You could do alot with a couple of stock photos up top, layer a few different fabrics or something like that. Lots of possibilities.

Love the graphics. Really eye-catching and well done.

shadows in photoshop
This is how I do it, but I also like to change the blending mode to multiply so it looks more natural if it's on something besides white .

Client info management
What do you guys do to keep up with client info? I really thought a forum (private, of course) would be an easy way. Simply start a topic for each client and add to it as needed. I set it up and password protected the directory as well as turned off viewing for guests and user registration. Is that safe enough? If not, does anyone have any great ideas? I don't want to have to open up Word or Excel every time I need to find something...are there any other great options, preferably web based?

iMac Advice
I'm in the US (gasp!) so not positive about you guys over there, but here Adobe will provide a cross platform change for CS if you are running the latest version.

Should I get an imac?
I do this as well. I find it does slow down my Macbook Pro a little, which it shouldn't really, but I only run it when I need to test a site in IE. I also added your blog to my Sage feeder .

Should I get an imac?
If you are running the latest version of Creative Suite, you can get a cross platform change from Adobe at no charge .

Nice font, whats yours?
I like Century Gothic at times, but usually only in the header, where I use any font I wish because it's usually a graphic. For text, I prefer Trebuchet MS for sans-serif and Georgia for serif, but for really small text, I usually use Verdana.

Information to fade in, fade out to next
This sounds interesting. I did a flash file yesterday to accomplish this with images and just put static text beside it, but I could definitely use what you're thinking of to make it even better. I'll be watching to see if anyone has suggestions.

Hello
I'm new here . I have been doing freelance design for a while, mostly customization of eCommerce scripts (ZenCart), Wordpress blogs, forums and galleries with a few installs/customizations of Joomla. I recently went to work for a company doing this full time and am in charge of developing several sites within their business plan. I started using Photoshop about 5 years ago and honed my skills by designing digital scrapbooking products. That also put me into the niche I was in as far as the freelance work. I taught myself how to customize those scripts and from there learned more and more about design and development in general. Since I started my job, though, I've learned alot more about taking a site from mockup to html. I do admit to using tables quite frequently because of the nature of the sites I do, but I am trying to learn as much about using CSS as I can and hope to move more and more towards that on the new sites I develop. Okay, is that the longest intro ever?? Thanks for setting up a nice place to meet other designers and share ideas and info.

How does client make updates themselves?
I agree with the CMS idea. Yes, they could edit the files and if you commented them really well, they could probably only change what they really needed to, but if they were to delete something accidentally, it could sure be a headache for you. If you're starting from scratch and can make a CMS work, that's a good idea.
