  1. Hi, I recently finished this layout image: http://50.87.144.149/~caio/clientes/cg%20consultoria%20layout%20v3.jpg I want to code it, but I'm in front of a situation I dont know how to deal. I always use a wrapper div to make the content of the site centralized. I want to make the blue strips at the background to appear on 100% width, not being stuck to the wrapper width. At the same time, I would like the blue strips to follow the site position, because of this it can't have a "position: absolute", which would be a simple solution. Is there a solution for this kind of thing? Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. Hi, I could fix it. It seems I had put <div> tags before the <html> tag. It crashes everything in IE 8 and 9, and not in the other browsers. I did this because I wanted different content out of the wrapper in different pages, and I didnt know how to use the php conditional tags in wordpress. I learned it here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags and then I could fix it all, puting the <divs> inside the header.php and using conditional tags: is_front_page(), is_page(), is_single(), for everything. Thanks.
  3. Hi, I'm with a problem in a site I'm developing for a client, which is not centralizing in IE 8 and 9 - althought it works well in Chrome and Firefox. It stays at the left at the screen. The site is at: http://184.172.154.184/~caio/clientes/gerardi/ I recently made another site, which works fine in IE 8 and 9, and also in Chrome and Firefox: http://www.marciopi.com.br I looked all the code to see what I did wrong, but I couldn't find it, even copying and pasting the "body {" and "#wrapper" css code of one into other. Thank you for any advice, Caio.
  4. Hi, A client of mine wants two resources of advertigins: 1. exposure of banners for a defined amount of times, after it the banners are changed. 2. exposure of videos advertising on posted videos, for a defined amount of times. (Like Youtube videos do, for example). The second resource that seems to me to be tougher, and I have no idea of how to do it. Maybe there is a wordpress plugin that does it? Thank you, Caio.
  5. Racist behaviour can be considered ethical and good for a professional or a company's image?
  6. Is it too difficult for a person that have always worked with Photoshop to learn Illustrator? Is it everything totally new or the ps knowledge help? Because when I open Illustrator, well, I just dont know how to do nothing, even the simplest thing is different from photoshop to do...
  7. Hi, I run my own web design company with some partners since some years. We realized though, that the services we provide - or that we are capable to - are close to many of an advertising company. We offer visual identity creation, graphic creation for printing, etc, but rarely a client appears for those services, they usually appear for the development of web sites, which is our main focus. So, I would like to ask about your experience, what you think about this relation of offering web design services, or being an advertising company that also offers web design? The market for advertising, publicity, in general is going well? Which are the differences between those areas? Thank you.
  8. Thank you for your tips. I understood that you believe it's possible to work for print using photoshop, but not good at all. "You definitely need to deliver work of a professional calibre to your clients" I believe I'll have to find freelancer partners to help me at least at the beggining, while I can go learning to work with vectors. I believe that would be a good approach then. I apreciate any other suggestion about this issue.
  9. Hi, I've always been a web designer and now I'm wanting to turn my company also for print works (packages, folders, flyers, magazines, anything that is print). I would like to ask if using Photoshop (using pixels, not ps vetorial tools) is acceptable for doing such kind of works? I know that Illustrator might be much better, and Photoshop isn't even intended for web design, but my point is that I'm with no time now to learn how to use other softwares, and I want to ask then if I can be in the market using Photoshop for print work, or if the clients will think I'm a swindler? I believe Logotypes can't be made in pixels, right? But print work, that have a specific size to be printed, is it acceptable to create using photoshop's pixels? Thank you.
  10. Those sites are good in the case you have don't any portfolio and you want to build some. For nothing more than that. They are the most powerful way of devaluating design work... It's a crime with designers.
  11. Hi, I understand that it's more professional and better for us and for the client to make a specific budget for each project. But my problem is about the marketing. I usuallly approach my clients with some kind of advertising. When I put the price, of, let's say, 100, some get interested. If I put a too high price, I believe they wouldn't. At the same time, there are some big companies that could easily pay 300, and putting 100 for them I'm losing money. So, the "package" is a way of offering a price of 100, and at the same time offering a price of 200, trying to reach both client's budget. By your experience, do you find this a too bad method of working? My problem is that, even when clients come to me asking for a estimate budget, they usually do this for several web design companies at the same time. And if I put a too high price, they seem to don't even answer anymore, so I don't have the change to put it down. How you deal with this, don't losing clients with small budget, but at the same time don't losing money for big companies that could of course pay more? My way of dealing, now, is doing this that I mentioned: separating Google Analytics, SEO, Social Networks integration, Newsletter.
  12. Hi, I usually charge an amount for a Website without CMS, and an amount higher if it's with a CMS. Besides that, I charge a bit more for some extra features, which can be hired separately, which are: - Integration with social networks - Integration with Google Analytics, and the teaching of it's use - A formulary for registering of emails for Newsletter use - SEO What do you think of this way of working? Do you have other extra features that you use to offer for your clients?
  13. Hi, I have a client who wants a site to sell t-shirts. He wants the visitor to be able to chose the color, size and illustration on the t-shirt, and after chosing it be able to see a illustration of the shirt representing his chose. Is there a plugin or e-commerce solution specific for this? Thank you.
  14. Hi, I'm asking reviews about the design of the last site I've make: http://www.cursopontual.com.br It's for a smal school. I used Photoshop for the images and the CMS Joomla while coding. Thank you.
  15. Is there somewhere I can learn to back up manually? This Akeeba Backup is the only way I know to transfer my Joomla sites to server.
  16. Hi, I use akeeba backup to upload the sites I create in Joomla to my server. My issue is that the backup sometimes gets heavier and heavier. If I make one, it's 12 mb. The next is 24 mb. The next 50 mb. I delete the older backups and it doesn't help, the backup always gets heavier anyway. I as upload this file to load the site using kickstart.php, it becomes very annoying to upload each time larger files. Anyone have an advice? Thank you.
  17. Hi, I'm with a problem with web fonts. I'm not sure if the method I use work, not even in which browsers it does work. I have a site which I've used for months, and I thought the web fonts were ok. But testing it in other computer, it didn't work. I'm afraid that it only works in mine because I have the fonts in my computer (and it's not the web fonts css that is doing the job). The site is: http://triskelwebdesign.com Does it appear there with the fancy font "Lobster" in the titles, and the more common style "Grandesign" in the content text? Besides, the code I use for adding the fonts is: @font-face { font-family: 'Lobster'; src: url('fonts/lobster_1.4-webfont.eot') format('eot'), url('fonts/lobster_1.4-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('fonts/lobster_1.4-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'); } @font-face { font-family: 'Delicious'; src: url('fonts/delicious-roman-webfont.eot') format('eot'), url('fonts/delicious-roman-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('fonts/delicious-roman-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'); } @font-face { font-family: 'Grandesign'; src: url('fonts/grandesign_neue_serif_regular-webfont.eot') format('eot'), url('fonts/grandesign_neue_serif_regular-webfont.woff') format('woff'), url('fonts/grandesign_neue_serif_regular-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'); } I'm testing my sites now also in a netbook, and the fonts for this site works fine, but for others simply doesn't work at all in the netbook. Even being the same version of the same browser. How is this possible? Thank you for any help.
  18. Thank you, I guess I could figure how it works
  19. Hi, I'm a little lost about which keywords I choose to optimize my site. And that's because of the different match keyword options. What is the difference between the 3 types, I mean type 1: nothing, type 2: [] type 3: "". That the keyword tools of google shows? I have a keyword that is: type 1: 2.400/month type 2 []: 46/month type 3 "": 140/month And other which is: type 1: 1.900/month type 2 []: 28/month type 3 "": 590/month So, for which of them it worth for me to optmize? The type 3 "" means people that searched in google exactly: "keyword" using the quotation marks? Type 2 is people that searched the same thing without the quotation? And what type 1 is exactly? I decided to put the title of my page exactly the type 3 "" that has 590/month. But at the same time the type 1 of the other has 2.400/month... I don't know if I chose right. Does anyone understand this better? Thanks.
  20. Thanks. Specifying better my doubt: It helps for seo if the anchor text of my link has a keyword. Like <a href=".."> keyword </a> If the link is an image, I believed the "alt" could work in the same way. Or it doesnt? Using a "title" in the <a> that is a keyword helps for seo?
  21. The image goes as the "background-image" of the div, in the css file. Like #suchimage {background:... } I find no room for the "alt"
  22. Charlottedesigns is good because it you'll help a lot your SEO for the word "design". Have you thought in a domain like .art ?
  23. Hi, I read always that the "alt" of the images are very important, specially when they are linking to somewhere, cause this "alt" can work as an anchor text. But my site has images made with div tags, like <a href="link.."><div id="suchimage"></div></a> Is there a way for me to accomplish "alt" information for those images and menus, or should I put the images in other way, not by the div tag? Thank you.
  24. Do you folks have a suggestion of a good sitemap generator for Joomla? I've tried JCrawler, but it doesn't work for my site, it creates an almost empty xml ignoring my pages.
