Just the type of answer i was looking for! Been a problem solving day and this one i just about couldn't get my head around solving!

Here goes nothing, I have a PHP script that is re-ran every 30 seconds using a little Ajax wizardry. I have a $startTime and an $endTime both in the format of 'HOUR:MIN'. I also have $currentTime in the same format. I want to be able to work out the amount of hours and minutes left and out put it as $leftTime but i havn't a clue how to go about it. Obviously i have tried simple deductions etc but maths was never my strongest subject and time with php coding is confusing me. So for example: $startTime = 2000; // 8pm $endTime = 2130; // 9.30pm $currentTime = 2015; //8.15pm // some php magic later... $leftTime = 0115; // 1 hour, 15 minutes left. If someone could point me in the right direction or get me started i would be most grateful! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the feedback guys! It has pretty much confirmed what I had thought anyway. I'm not a free lancer and I have been working for the company for nearly 4 years now so nearly everything I have in my portfolio was from a company they owned. All the sites were designed by the designers on the team and I coded them so, yes, it was a little hard to showcase them without just linking people to the live sites. I've turned the site off now as it is not needed, if I make the decision to look for another job in the future I will reactive the site. By that time, I'll be long gone out of said company!

My manager was off for a week and over that time I had created the website, been to a job interview (three, in fact), accepted a new job and handed my notice in to HR. So he came back to all the directors of each company (not sure which or how many) all having seen my showcase and putting pressure on him to talk to me about it. He was beating around the bush for ages trying to explain how the company doesn't want me to link to the websites and I just smiled, stopped him in his tracks and told him that it had done it's job and I will shut it down now anyway. . . . well... I'll rick roll them first. Your right though, it came as a surprise to them that I'm leaving but the directors themselves who are putting the pressure on don't care that I am leaving so it can't be that. Aww well, i guess you've just confirmed to me what I already thought. Just wanted to see if anyone else has ever had trouble showcasing their work on portfolios.

@Ste Hughes - IF you employed me and lost trust in me because I said I wouldn't work on a project due to religious reasons, I would say you were a pretty poor attempt at a boss and quit anyway. @cibgraphics - I totally agree with you. +1

Hi guys, Just wanted to get a few opinions from you all to see how this looks through some outsider eyes. Basically 2 weeks ago I registered a domain name to use as the base of a quick one paged 'showcase' of work as I had some job interviews to attend the next day. I created a simple page and took screen shots of a few of the websites I have built of the companies that my current employer owns (they are an umbrella corporation). Now I was offered a job and accepted the offer, handing my notice in at work the very next day. Since then, my current employer (however they have done this, but I guess it wasn't hard to figure out) has found my little showcase and circulated it around all the directors. They have been a bit sh!t with me since then and have now, after a week into my 4 week notice period, asked me to remove the links back to their websites. When I joined the company, I didn't sign anything that stopped me from using the work I did there as a portfolio and they didn't mention that as being the reason they wanted them taken off. In fact they used the excuse that three of the companies I have showcased try to stay out of each others lame light, in a nutshell, they always try to hide the fact that all three are owned by the same umbrella. Now I don't mind taking down the links... In fact, I'm going to redirect the domain name to point to a Rick Rolling video...... just because I know from my analytics they are still viewing the site daily!! but... Do they actually have the power to legally make me remove a simple link to their websites?? I understand them having the power to stop me from using the screen shots of the websites, but say I only had a description of what I worked on and a link to the site. Am I breaking any rules there??

Although i agree with most people who have said for him to just get on with it. He did state that this job effected him for personal reasons so i think people could do with calming a little. Where such job would not bother me in the slightest, it clearly bothers this person otherwise he wouldn't have posted about it so why not show a little bit more understanding about the situation. Maybe if they elaborate more on why they don't want to do it for person reasons? Bad past experience, religious family although not religious yourself? etc etc

YES! That was weird. When she was walking away Peter looked across the dragons and goes "I can't believe she got the .com". Is he under the impression that every single .com in the world is already taken or something? Quite easy to pop "the" in front of anything and find it is available.

Not been on for a few weeks, was welcomed by this and a very nice surprise it was! Love it, great work. And i agree with an earlier comment about having the balls to redesign a site that has so many critics in the same field! haha.

Have a dig around here, i'm sure i saw a thread a few weeks back discussing language issues.

When you put like that I can actually see the advantages, I still stick by my 'its either one or the other' statement though. If we were to have a shout box I'd want it to sit where the status updates are.
