January 18, 201115 yr Hi there, I'm running my own home based web design studio here in Australia, but have plans to move over to the UK in a couple of years time, so it would be nice to perhaps start doing some work for clients there also. I own both the .com.au and the .co.uk domains for my company, and would like to put my site up on both, however I'm curious about any issues I might encounter with having essentially the same site on two different domains. I have read discussions in the past about Google penalties for having duplicate content on separate sites, but I don't know enough about the subject to make an informed decision. Can anyone give me any advice on the best way to go about this? Cheers, Chris
January 18, 201115 yr Hey Chris, Google hate duplicate content! At my company this is one of our most strictest standard when preparing a website for going live, so for that reason you probably want to avoid having an exact copy for the .com.au. I would suggest you either have two the same looking website but optimise the content of each one seperately or you have the .com.au forwarded to the .co.uk Edited January 18, 201115 yr by Warren Jerzyszek
January 18, 201115 yr I'd use a 301 redirect on one of the domains and re-direct it to the other one. As posted above, multiple versions of content on several different domains will lead to many headaches and penalisation by Google as well as user confusion. Have a look at http://www.isitebuild.com/301-redirect.htm for more info on 301's Edited January 18, 201115 yr by MikeChipshop
January 18, 201115 yr Sorry for the thread hijack, but how would this work with the same websites in different languages?
