PHP Image Upload help!
the server is probably set up not to allow in-script setting changes, and as such the default limit of 2M applies. You will need to search and replace the php.ini for "2M" with "40M" to make it work, and this change will be global.

PHP Navigation
LilJames, the code is meant to be used a central access file (eg, index.php) which would also include any class references and entity parsers. The requested $page would then be included (require'd) after the switch flow, therefore it would not be included on every page, rather as just one page.

Tutorial improvement: Learn how to prevent direct linking to your php files
if I refer to the image from an HTML page as an element (eg <img src='bla.jpg' />) are you sure that the SERVER var you request will always be the name of the HTML file and not the name of the image? Across browsers and OS's ?

Members Only Area
if the members username/passwords don't need to be unique to each member, then you could use a htaccess/htpasswd setup.

MyISAM Vs INNODB
they tend to it on their own, but you can make a script which gets the rows from all copies of the database and writes the most prevalent one back to that row. If you run this once every 24 hours (and it will down your server for a few minutes) you can be pretty well assured of it's integrity.

MyISAM Vs INNODB
MyISAM, when duped between 3+ servers, pretty much wipes out INNODB's advantages with transactions.

Remember the movie CAPTCHA idea?
ok peeps, in order to make it work better, in both the number of images used (more) and the chance of it working each time (no more non-pictures), and possibly even a voice file, I'll be trying to shift it to the Amazon API (instead of RT feeds) If it works, expect a quick release next week.

Dynamically Globalising Variables / Instances - Could actually be hard lol
try with the global variable rather than the global keyword, eg, $_GLOBAL[ $instance ] = ${$instance};

How much should i charge?
lice chat eh? whatever next! If you are unsure whether or not you can fulfill the requests, it is best simply not to take on the work, or outsource to a friendly php person. your quote is based mostly on the feature spec of the site, and personally I would quote around 1500 but it's really down to you.

Permission denied?
that is not correct - the permissions are owner - group - public "owner" and "group" is the user who created the folder, so probably the FTP user. PHP has the user "www-data" as its owner and group name, so effectively the permissions that PHP has for that folder is 5 (read, execute). If you have direct SSH/Telnet/VNC access available, you could use "chown" to change the owner of the folder, otherwise, you will need to set the permissions to 777

Remember the movie CAPTCHA idea?
Rask: the image is re-written on each load (it has to be) and so the encoding changes each time, thus making it very hard (if not impossible) to get a computer to guess. The movies also change with the current latest ones on RT, and updates the list every hour.

Remember the movie CAPTCHA idea?
UPDATE okay, taken a fresh look at this and: - made the movies easier to type, by removing any punctuation and whitespace (incase of leading or trailing whitespace, or double spaces) - added a "not sure? get another one" link which gives you a fresh image to try http://www.richardlyon.co.uk/movie

Remember the movie CAPTCHA idea?
ok, there are problems with punctuation and whitespace which need to be resolved, for example "10,000 BC" is written as "10,000 BC" on the poster, but "10,000 B.C." in the movie name from RT. A solution to this would be to strip the names of any non-letter characters, so "10,000 BC" becomes "10000bc" to the system, thus allowing the user to enter any of the following: - 10,000 BC - 10,000 B.C - 10,000 B.C. - 10000 BC - etc I'm not sure how to get bigger images at the moment, possibly by using Google Images as the source rather than the RT poster (effectively just using the RT feed to get a list of recent movies)

Remember the movie CAPTCHA idea?
I officially rock http://www.richardlyon.co.uk/movie/index.html Works most of the time, although there are caveats - it purposefully excludes movies which have titles longer than 30 characters - it compares in lower case - it stores the movie name as hashed (sha1) key in the session, so it can't do an "almost there" - I don't see how, but it might be hackable - it's not very accesible, as the title of the movie can be quite small. - to save a tiny amount of my bandwidth, it caches the feed (from RottenTomatoes) for an hour at a time anyway, opinions?

The Asus Eee PC
apparently the Eee 900 (9-inch screen, with 12gb SS mem built-in) is destined for "Q2 08" so expect to see it on the shelves by about August, I guess...

CPB MASS emailer
Hi CPB The actual template is kindof crappy - it's quite hard to see what is going on - perhaps try using a pre-built template, such as from GooeyTemplates (google it) Also, the method of adding emails could be improved - for example, if you had the direct text input being validated every 500ms, which put a tick next to each line to show it is a valid email address?

Linux newbie question
Hi Expat, From what I have read in my quick google search, the problem is with the installer, so you *might* be able to run it off an SD card. WINE installations range from "exactly like Windows" to "hell on earth". For a pretty verbose list of what works, and in some cases how to make it work, check out the AppDB at http://www.winehq.org

Linux newbie question
ok, for me the demo installed and ran fine (cept I have no idea how to play, so I don't know about the graphics) demo installer does not work for BBM08, however it apparently works for BBM07 (unverified)
