Good or Bad?

Hello all,

Thank you in advance. Tell me what you think about the single paged site I have just finished:

http://www.thephotofixer.co.uk

Looking to improve, so I'll try my best not to take the criticism personally :D

Clear and purposeful. Nice one. And a hand-made one-off if i am not mistaken?

I clicked on the large Icons thinking it was a kind of menu, but it wasn't, although it could be. There doesn't seem to be any kind of nav, except a shortcut to the contact form, but I guess that's what you want. Maybe a back to top link?

The captcha box is not quite centred.

Thank you.

Yes I started from scratch. No nav menu as just wanted to keep this one simple. Good call on the back to top link! I'll have a play with the captcha box.

Thank you

"touch-ups" no apostrophe. and hyphenated :)

have you considered putting a couple of before and afters? like an old photo to a restored one for example?

Yeah looks good.

How about when you click on the arrow it scrolls to the contact form smoothly rather than just jumps there.

Yes, good idea! I shall have a look at this.

Yes, I do need to add a portfolio section really.

One of the first tests for any site these days is how it works on a phone. Yours is just this loooooong page. Hold the phone in landscape and it's even worse.

And while I'm all for simple I expected to be able to click on the icons to see some examples of your work. I'd also want to see some testimonials and some sample pricing.

Why the slidey finger image for touch ups?

On my mac when I click the telephone icon it tells me I need Skype (I thought I would give me your phone number). I filled in the form without the recaptcha and got:

Sorry, something went wrong there...

I clicked to return home and all my field info was missing.

The last facebook update was 2015. Twitter is a little better - Jul 15. Instagram is 'mrhappyash89' and appears to just selfies and linkedin says you are the QA Supervisor at Bluesky International Limited. So why even bother with the SM links. Surely you want people to stay on site and get a quote.

Show me how good you are - give me confidence you can actually do what you say you can - especially turning a black and white picture into color photo.

All good points. Thanks very much for your time and feedback.

I don't have any real CC about the site itself, although I find the little bouncy arrow annoying.

But you have the wrong text for "Object Removal".

Most of the site looks nice and clean and clear.

@@Jane B now look at the site on your phone as a prospective customer. There are no trust marks or confidence builders.

Even the icons are confusing to my mum. To her Ps means Postscript.

Ha, this is where it goes to show that you can't please everyone. I actually quite like the little arrow as it draws the eye to something which is quite important and encourages people to scroll down the page. If there had been a large amount of text to read it would have been distracting. However with the current layout this is not a problem and it is key to get those visitors to scroll down.

A good point by fiscx, but an easy fix I think.

All you need to do is make the icons not visible on your mobile CSS, as I can't see them working in that situation. That way your visitors won't need to scroll down before reaching the important info!

But why even have the hero image and arrow? It would be far better to lead straight into the services on offer with lots of before and after images so the potential client can see the quality of the work.

I see your point, but in my opinion, when there are blocks of text it has less of an impact and many people won't actually read the different types of services included.

So to answer your question its all about a visual impact making the number of subjects clearer before visitors go on to read about each of them.

Indeed, which is why they need before and answer images. They don't need all the blurb or the icons either. A simple list of the services linking to a page with more information and more imagery will be a better UX and much better for marketing. It will give Google more to

Index and if they advertise a specific service they will have an accompanying landing page.

People landing on the site just want their old pictures restored, they don't care how it is done. All they want is reassurance that their faded and torn picture can be brought back to life. And the best way to do this is with some example images.

Yes I agree with those comments. For a homepage I think the design works, but to create conversions and to increase the level of the traffic to the site it could do with other pages explaining these services in further detail which also include examples.

Thanks all for the feedback guys. I'll have a look at making some changes based on your comments.

First of all I would like to say that I like the "The Photo Fixer" logo. And the website is very simple and clear to the point. There is no feel of attraction!!!

You need some inspiration for website layout. Good Luck.!!
