Hi, I'm just starting out and wondering how to choose a payment gateway? Is there a list of the best ones or do some companies offer incentives for developers to use their gateway? Or maybe you just go on what you find on google? Thanks!

There's a lot to consider here:

 

1. Does the gateway serve your country, or the countries of your typical customers?

- some gateways don't accept payments from certain "high risk" countries

 

2. What is the cost?

- you'll find varying prices according to your sales volume and annual amount

- if you make a lot of sales some gateways can offer you deals (think 6-7 figure turnovers and above)

- you'll sometimes need to factor in additional costs such as merchant account, monthly fees in addition to processing fees

 

3. How easy is the gateway to integrate into your site?

- most ready made shopping cart systems usually support the popular gateways

- if you're rolling your own then writing a gateway for your custom store can be a pain

 

That's just a few things off the top of my head!

There is huge list of payment gateways available online and every gateway has its own pros and cons. You have to choose one which fulfills your business requirements. I have provided the list of points below, which you should have cleared before choosing one for you:

• Decide first that how much you can pay for it?
• If your business is at international level then check if the gateway allow payments in such countries.
• How much secure your selected gateway is?
• Type of cards accepted by that gateway.

 

Take these above listed points into account while selecting a gateway.

Even though it is an industry pariah, for a beginner, I think PayPal is the best option. That compared with Bitcoin, which is pretty popular everywhere, can give you a starting point. Afterwards you can migrate to bigger payments gateways, such as Skrill or Paymentwall, but I think they require more verification. I would recommend also 2checkout.

The best thing to do from your customer's perspective is to offer different gateway. Some prefer Paypal, some prefer others. Let your customers choose what they want to go with.

I would say that you can use whatever gateway you want but as Bitpalace said it's good to give a choice. Paypal is very good because it allow people to pay with their credit/debit cards and it's very safe.

I could say PayPal is the most reputable and trustworthy payment gateway, is highly recognized among e-business professionals and non-professionals.

based on your location, you can choose your payment gateway as like in US most sites used paypal because it is safe and secure.
