Those who look at my review post probably fed up with my posts on please review my website since I upload an update every few months haha

 

but I am here again with a more up to date version of my website. I am looking for good points and bad points. These are the areas Id like someone to review:

 

the responsive layout (does it work properly on iPhone?)

the design (nice colours, fonts etc)

the code (well structured, neat etc)

content (am I sending out the right message?)

 

I am only a college student at the minute so I haven't really got anyone else that is a designer to review the overall site. That why I am asking kindly for you to review my site please

I like the colours and layout, and it's generally very sharp and simplistic. Content-wise, perhaps a little lengthy? I didn't want to read all of that text at the top.

 

However, injecting content using document.write is definitely not something I'd recommend. I'd put my money on that having a significant negative impact on SEO – let alone the fact that anyone/anything (think robots/spiders) without Javascript can't see a thing.

PHP or some other server side language would allow you to use variables/constants/arrays similar to your javascript usage. This route would be accessible to people without javascript and allow search engines to index your website properly. Only requirement is that you have PHP on your server.

 

I like your portfolio. As mentioned above, I think you could cut down on the amount of written content- some of it seems redundant. I'd also recommend getting someone you know to look over your grammar - I found quite a few mistakes on my first read through.

 

I really like your design - clean and nice colours. A few things I picked up on:

 

- When your design hits less than width:320px it automatically reverts back to the desktop version.

- Is there a reason why each content area has a different width? for example, the edges of content in the profile section do not line up with the content in the about section, and neither of those line up with the contact content.

- Because you're using a 1 page portfolio, I think it could work nicely if your navigation links changed to reflect the part of the page you are in. For example when you scroll down to the 'works' from 'about' the navigation link for about would go grey on 'about' and turn blue for 'works'.

- Rather than showing just 3 works with the 'more works' button - I'd go for 6 or 9

- It'd be cool if when you hovered over the works you got a short description of what the project was. Because at the moment I'm just guessing what the actual work is, considering there is no title, website link or description.

- The positioning of the contact form elements could use a little work. For example, the 'Submit' button is about 20 or so pixels off center. There isn't enough spacing between the 'message:' text and the contact form inputs.

- The edges of your logo up the top look slightly blury when compared to your bottom logo.

 

Again, great website, good job.

Yeah I do have PHP on my hosting account so it should be all good. I will convert it all to PHP, it shall be matthewclaffey version 2! haha

haha, to be honest, you probably could just use straight html. Considering it's only 1 page, you won't really be calling any of your variables more than once or twice.

 

But if you're learning php there's no harm in it, especially if you'll end up adding additional pages.

I think it looks good, I'm getting so many ideas for new design concepts around here haha.

My only real suggestion other than the few things mentioned above is that it would be nice to see larger images of the websites you've worked on.

Your portfolio is nice and it show your lack of experience. As spend your time your portfolio I hope becomes more better and better.

I quite like the colours and overall look. You have some typos e.g. "used to showcase my portfolio but it will also I will be implementing" and a lack of apostrophes.

I was going to comment but I viewed your site from the ipad2 and found some layout issues with it so cannot make proper judgement

Yeah mate I think its just a div error someone said to me but I havent set my media query for the tablet
