Why is Blue used in design?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Sorry if you think its a stupid question :(.

I noticed most site owners (esspecially in tech and travel) like to use the colour blue in their website? Why? Any specific reason? or just they liked it.

Different shades promote different meanings/emotions a royal Blue could be perceived as superiority or a lighter shade blue promotes the feeling of the sea/openness/confidence & dark blue means intelligent, rich, elegant, old-fashioned...

There's some good readings actually on the use of blue in design:

There is a good reason for using blue, grey, black and white.

Some people are colour-blind and either don't see red or green or mix them up.

Blue is one of the best colours to use in terms of psychology online!

Interesting discussion. When I studied multimedia design we were taught that the color blue gives the impression of trust and credibility. That's probably why so many banks (and facebook) choose blue in their design. Colors is indeed a very important tool of communication.

Never knew about blue being an impression of trust and credibility. Guess that's one thing my teacher didn't tell us about. Thanks for that bit of information.

Yes I have also read that blue and white are meant to be well trusted and used by lots of big companies
