I have read, what feels like, a million different articles and forum posts on directory submissions and I am still confused.

 

Some people are saying that they are very useful and others are saying that they are being discounted by Google, I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on this subject?

 

Also I have read alot of link building strategies and what works best......everyone is leading to engaging content that people will naturally want to share, I think they referred to it as 'link bait'? This term sounds a little bit black hat style if I'm honest but I have no experience with it so wouldn't know!

 

Has anyone got any little techniques they use for link building? Obviously I am not expecting you to reveal your link building strategies because you may have a concrete model you make money from but just some tips on where to start??

Its not black hat at all. Its a way of tempting someone to link to your content. If you write drab and boring content then nobody will stay or link to you. Write exciting content that asks questions and hits on some great points then people will post to it. Common sense really.

 

Guest blogging is a powerful tool.

 

Build online quizzes, that can be a great way of getting people to link to you.

 

Articles are, in part, being discounted but that's mainly the spam infested sites. Good quality article sites are still great to use

I would recommend using these particular article directories. All of them still have high PR and so they must give a value to your site providing you included few backlinks to your website in the content of submitted articles. I am also new to SEO having only 6 months of experience; however I do believe high PR websites give a lot of profit if they have some backlinks linking to your website. Also, websites must be related to your niche and that is very important SEO point too.

I would suggest you go with Guest posting. Although its little difficult to find the sites in your niche with good pr, if you manage to find few, you could get some real good quality links from them. And yes, submiting articles in authentic article directories such as articlerich.com and articlebase.com could also help you.

I'd have thought Guest posting is just lazy spamming. The reason so many sites now no longer have guest profiles is because of the number of numpties that spammed their links all over the place.

Yes, but then if you can manage to contact the site owner and ask for a link placement in exchange of a quality post, that could help you out! And i don't think that its spamming that way.?

Yeah right, and how many SEO spammers do that? And how many site owners are going to want guests posting spammy comments. They'll want someone to sign up at least. Even that IMO will make a mess of things pretty quickly.

Guest posting is, now sadly, spammy and a direct result of the practices of many SEO companies.

Well, guest posting can't just be relied upon as major source of backlinks. There has to be a mix of backlink building strategy. And talking about the spam, its not just one company or not just one particular region. I agree that many SEO companies create trash out there to build links, but then not all of them do it that way. Atleast not after the Google Penguin update.?

It seems like you think everything to do with SEO is spam. I don't get why you think guest posting is posting is spammy. Its not automated and its something the website owner has control over. Done the right way it can.benefit both the guest and the website owner.

 

 

I remember having a youtube channel for karaoke videos, within 1 month i got lots of interest and people was linking to my karaoke site. Don't forget Youtube is a big search site and can bring lots of traffic and backlinks if used properly.

Yeah pretty much. So long as what you're looking to write is relevant and going to be useful. My personal blog is about SEO mainly, so if someone cam forward and wanted to write some really good pieces about the industry then I'd let them.

 

Just the same as if someone had a blog about boats and you wanted to promote your own boat sales website then you'd ask them if you can write a blog post for them in exchange for a link to your website.

 

Many owners would say yes, given they have final say on the article, as linking out to other websites is pretty important
