Just starting out with SEO for clients sites and wondered how many people use software to aid with rhe SEO? If so could you recomend whats best? Or are the free tools such as google analitics all yoy really need?

I would say the good old fashioned manual SEO is better than any automated software.

"software for seo" is very broad.

 

Do you mean on site seo, or off site seo, such as backlinking and article writing/submission etc?

I was wanting software that will analyze and keep track of all aspects of SEO so I can analyse as I go, both on site and off. To help see what has changed and to show clients.

Seriously? It's $99 per month - that's about £63. SEO is ongoing work, so that's a cost you can pass on to your clients, and if it saves you - what? 3 hours' work per month (and it will) it will pay for itself.

To do what SEOmoz can do, for each client and each website, on an on-going basis would probably cost you 3 or 4 days a month worth of man hours.

 

Opensiteexplorer, on it's own, is worth the money. I don't know of any other software that comes close to this tool. The data they provide is worth more than 60 quid a month.

 

I assume you're just starting out, and it can seem a little daunting but do the maths...

 

Let's say you charge £10 an hour (very low figure, but easier to work with) and have 5 websites on the go. Each month, you have to check the backlinks, the traffic from certain keywords, the competitors, your websites rankings, on-page analysis etc etc.

 

You might find 5 or 6 different tools that are all free and provide a similar sort of tool set as this. But then you're spending time reading this data, transferring between different websites to make sense of it.

 

Let's say it takes you 2 days a month to do this. Thats 16 hours a month you're using to do this work. Thats 160 quid you've "lost" because you're doing the work of a program that costs £60 a month.

 

 

It's an investment. A business tool. A business expense too, so take it to your accountant.

If you run a business ~£60 a month isn't a lot to 'protect and correct' your online presence, by that I mean checking how your site is really performing and working on how to correct and improve it. That's a very general analysis but you get the jist.

 

If you're running or starting an SEO orientated service then £60 a month is nothing, unless you're from India and charge clients £50 for "best seo servicing"... *facepalm*

 

If you're an individual with a keen interest, you can try the trial at least, but it's not really much use thereafter unless you apply to one of the above.

Sorry I neglected to say, we use SEOmoz, we like it, we'd recommend it.

 

However it has to be said we also use other forms of trackers and analytics (online marketing orientated) that cost much more than SEOmoz because we couldn't survive on the 'moz alone.
