Portfolio site redesign

Featured Replies

Hello,

I put my redesign of my digital design portfolio live a few days ago and would really love some feedback. I'd been working on the site on and off for quite a long time and I'm sure you all know when you're been looking at a project for a long time it can be hard to have a subjective opinion on it.

It's reponsive so check it out on a tablet and smartphone, I've not been able to test it on an android device so let me know if you spot anything odd.

Thanks!

Very nice, only problem I had is after selecting portfolio it scrolls and positions nicely but then I have to scroll back to get menu again.

The menu should come down with you as it's fixed, can I ask what browser you are using?

Menu doesn't move for me either. Firefox (Fennec) 10, Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.

The menu won't move for devices as it was very buggy. Should stick the the left hand side in any browser though.

You need a backup solution perhaps - bottom nav? Back to top button?

I concur - very nice design. It's the kind of design that indicates that it's gone through the proper processes. Nice to see.

When viewing "normally" on a browser (firefox ATM) the left hand menu seems to shift down slightly when i'm at the top of the page and then shifts up a bit when I scroll down - is that intentional?

Thank you for the comments Gibson.

After the feedback here I think I will look to implement a 'Back to top button'.

Yes the left nav is suppose to shift slightly. It lets you scroll (slightly) until you hit the first divide line, the start of the nav, then 'sticks' there. I thought that was a nice little feature that draws your attention to the nav being in a unusal place, but if you're asking if that's intentional then maybe that's something I should reconsider.

Very sexy. Are my eyes getting bad or is there a slight mistake on your logo? Where the speech bubble -curve joins the ball I see something that looks like a brightness & contrast adjustment edge.

Nope I just get a bottom curved title of the section. Safari on iPad.

You're right (+1 for the keen eye!) I've updated that now. Thanks for spotting.

@Zed

The menu won't stick on ipad, this is international as iOS Safari didn't support position:fixed until iOS 5 and would get stuck in random places on the screen. I've added a Scroll To Top button now to make it easier to navigate. Although it still needs to use position:fixed, it not going to be as obvious as the menu would be, and hopefully most people have updated their software now.

@annemarie

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, it seems to pull in the right media query styles (same ones as an iPad portrait) but it seems to be displaying everything zoomed x2. I've searched for the issue but there seems to be no other comments from people having the same issue. At the moment I'm stumped on that one. Maybe something to do with it's retina display.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

I'm no expert yet but I think it can be fixed by adding a device-pixel-ratio mediaquery.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong..

I'm very impressed. I'm not sure if somebody mentioned this but the pie chart does something funny to my eyes. It seems like there is some sort of optical illusion going on there that makes it look lopsided. I'm just being picky though and I've been staring at a screen for too long ;) Nice work!

Thanks guys! And thanks again for everyones feedback on the site.

Sometimes you need to stop and pat yourself on the back.

Nice site ... really nice site!!

There was only one small thing that I didnt like. You need to put links to the sites in your portflio.

But other than that ...awesome...

voted for you, very nice site and strong portfolio.

Very nice! Only thing for me would be to have a PDF version of your CV to download.

But as an example of great responsive design, it's ideal!

nice site, basic / clean, just what u want :D

nice use of the purple colour also :D

Cool site.. nice effects.. A little to "plastic and bubbely to my taste".. I would like more details :) But thats my opinion.. the site is very cool :) I suppose its because of those huge rounded corners, all over.. I not a fan of that.. but, take no offence! :)

Also there is something wrong with the buttons in the menu, at the bottom, the last 10% of the button, cannot be pressed!

But i love the "my digital activities" ...

I think your portfolio is quite impressive. The website itself is very clean and unique. The design samples are all very clean as well. Good color scheme, contrast, and easy to navigate.

Hi,

it looks really good.

like the bit where if you enlarge the site ( ctrl+) it move the menu to the top.

It looks too much like a couple of joomla templates I have seen so was a bit hmmm about that

:)
