UK Young Internet Alliance

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Following research and exasperation, i realised there was no body for young web producers to show they care.

I and a few others came up with a concept, a young internet alliance.

So, it has been formed, and we have a site, at http://www.ukyia.co.uk/

Maybe some of you will be interested in joining.

You will receive a numbered logo to display on your site, and a listing in our members directory, grouped by county.

We are also looking for a few members to join first who want to have an involvement and 'steer' the Alliance to make it something people will recognise!

If you would like to join, please register using the form, and when accepted tell us you'd like to help.

So - the rules are:

Any designer or coder or do-it-all under 22 can join, and can stay until they are 25.

All members must provide a real name to us.

All members must have a live website we can link to.

All members must have a publishable email address.

All members must abide by the code of conduct.

Must live in the UK.

Thanks for your time,

Hope this isnt classed as Spam.

No problem. I've applied to join (looks like I'm the first one for my county so far XD) and I've plugged it in another forum I'm a member of for you. It looks like a good idea. Just because some of us are younger than others, doesn't mean we can't be just as able when it comes to building websites.

Sometimes I feel sad about being old(er) and sometimes I get angry....:(

but then I remember that I was a teenager in the 70's and 80's :yahoo: and I don't feel so bad about being excluded from the UKYIA!

^ Don't be angry! One day we will all be old like you. ;)

yeah but not for yeeeaaaarrrs, 'cos we are young and full of vim and viz and a word beginning with "s" and rhymes with "kerplunk"...

I joined, so thats that...

Im 25 so can I join until my birthday?? :D

Sorry Jake, not at the moment, it may be possible that a US branch will be formed in the future, but at the moment i have no time!

*hugs Badmotherz*

Do not worry! You still have a sexy website.

On the plus side, you get cheaper car insurance than we do. :p

"Younger than", or "younger than or equal to 22"... I'm 22...

Woo Thanx! I signed up :)

Stuck my last job in the website cos my site is in DIRE need of a redesign, currently being done!

Ok, this topic should be banned, removed, and no mention of it ever made again!

I never thought that I would be made to feel ancient at 28(ish) but you lot have managed.

Thanks!

I think this is really important, and it won't be worth anything unless a decent number of people sign up to it.

Anything promoting respect for young people in the UK is a good idea, the British suck at having any respect for their youth!

I think it would be good if it got a Forum on the UKYIA website though so that young ppl could discuss business problems together.

I agree, it's certainly worthwhile. Has anyone thought about promoting this to local/national news sites, see if they have any interest? The BBC often do little bits on these types of things. :)

I have signed up on it, It will be good if you have your own little graphics button 'Part of the UKYIA' Like a valid W3C CSS/HTML website, I am happy to help with the website if you need.

This is a great idea, I've applied! :D

well as I'm over thirty and therefore an old grumpy git, I think the site is very ageist!

Not really - you young'uns need to keep yourselves busy with something!

Thanks for the sign-ups! I'm currently working on getting Press coverage, we've got a feature coming up in April in one of the major web magazines, and i have sent press releases out to most of them, and am going to resend them as well.

Another method of marketing is like this - going and posting on forums, if any people go to a forum that you havent seen it posted on (i wont name the ones where it has, pm for details if you wish) then it would be much appriecated if you could help spread the word.

A forum will be created/linked in in due course, at the moment i am concentrating on getting members in, and the aim (or so i hope!!!) is that gradually via the forum, the members will be able to take over the running of the group, and decisions will be made en masse.

Whoo hoo! im now a member! :D

The best way people can help at the moment is to link to us.

Add your button, (you can manipulate it if you want), add a text link, blog about it, whatever!!!

We need the exposure and i think doing it that way will help us as much as the press will.

cps

I applied and would also like to help, I will contact you after being accepted *fingers crossed*

I have a suggestion / complaint about the current map - Surrey is in completely the wrong place, it should be to the left of Greater London. You have it in Essex at the moment :(

hi rob,

thanks for that, it seems that i've placed surrey where London is, misread the map slightly!

It should be in the dark empty patch, ill resolve that later, i have a few more to add so ill do it all in one go.

Sorry!
