January 19, 200917 yr Linky Ok, it's about 99.9% complete - A few tweeks needed, some more of my portfolio adding (When/if I rescue it off my old defunct hard drive) and I'm still working on the meta info in the head. Nonetheless, I'd like to hear your thoughts of it so far.
January 19, 200917 yr Wow.. looks really good, Im not to sure on the nav, though. Maybe add some margin-left and make the text a tad bit bigger! Good job though! Ps. "I fancy trying snow boarding" Try it you'll love it
January 19, 200917 yr I really like the design. Really there are just two things that I think could be better and they are just small things and a personal opinion 1.) your copyright at the bottom, I think it should be a little smaller, because of where it is places and all the text in the footer it is a little off putting it being the same size as all the other text...so maybe make it smaller or if not that then making it a darker. Just so there is a bit of a difference between it and the other text. 2.) Hover states on your main menu, as you have all these paint drips in different colours it might be nice if each of the hover states were different colours too, rather than all being blue. It would just tie them into the paint drips and add a little extra detail to the site.
January 19, 200917 yr oooh, i like it, and the nav Maybe add some padding to the a tags though, to allow more clickable area, and change the visited links to still show the hover states, i think it looks odd that they stop showing the hover state. However i think the blacks a bit of a harsh contrast, maybe change it to a very dark (almost black) grey. That's more of a personal trait for me though, i never use white or black, i always use just slightly off the mark, i find it helps. Just my $0.02
January 19, 200917 yr Hi Helen I like the overall design. I rather like the grey and black look and really like the paint dripping off your name and puddling at your feet. I do find it difficult to read the serif fonts, although that could just be a result of severe sleep deprivation:-) I am not sure I like the little stars in the logo area. Of course everything validates which is grand
January 19, 200917 yr Firstly, I love your work with the spilling paint - excellently done. It's such a shame you've not used it's full potential! The look ideally your website would have would be taking something like linky and imagine throwing your paint design at it, really using it for the layout.
January 19, 200917 yr Helen, have you thought about incorporating the paint drop effect into the nav, so that when you scroll over it it kinda drips down in different colors? Just an idea :0 Also, I would highlight your headings a little more, right now they are a little bit hard to make out among the paragraphs.
January 19, 200917 yr I think it looks great. The monochrome with a splash of colour works very well imo. However, the footer seems too harsh in contrast(white text on black) and the font size possibly a liitle large? Also agree with Dizi about the copyright. As for the nav, I quite like the simple look you have now but a larger 'hit' area would be a bonus. I think the picture of you makes the site. Excellent stuff Helen!
January 19, 200917 yr Hi Helen, The design looks great, very professional. However I don't want to sound like I'm some kind of copy text expert, (because I aint!) but there are a few spelling errors, in the footer text "ammeter photographer", on the about page "guarentee" and I think Firefox should be all one word rather than with a space in the middle. Also noticed the word organisation was spelt with a "z" somewhere, I think the english version should have "s". Anyway apologies if you havn't actually finalised your text yet, my english is terrible and I have to get other people to proof read through my work, I make lots of spelling errors! Danny
January 20, 200917 yr I much prefer it to your previous website, which had too much use of vectors etc. Not sure about the font, but the colours are gorgeous.
January 20, 200917 yr Great job! I would make the nav text bigger and you know in the about page you should move the form over to where it lines up with the submit and reset buttons.... But that's just my opinion, other than that everyone else mentioned everything.
January 20, 200917 yr Author Thanks for all you suggestions - some great ideas there which I will definitely take on board. (That's why I love this forum - very helpful........ It's always good to have a second and third pair of eyes to glance over and pick up on what you may have missed.......Thanks again all)
January 20, 200917 yr Helen, I think the site looks really good, I love the use of grey (which I use myself a lot), but as with any website there are always some small things which can be improved, i have some horizontal scrolling, also you currently have three layers to your website, the navigation menu area, the main content and the footer, I think the middle works well with your main descriptive content flowing in to the nice splash of colour from your 'paint dripping effect' image and text on the right, however I feel that your menu and the footer area could be improved, I would like to see the 'who is?' 'where is?' section divided up with maybe something as simple as some lines and I also agree with the previous comment about the copyright section being made smaller and I would also divide this up with a horizontal white line or something similar, also I am no typography master by any means but there is something about the font you have used, particularly at the bottom on that plain black background that doesn’t feels right, I would also experiment with the sizing of the font throughout the site, particularly with the menu at the top which I feel needs to be larger, but all in all great job and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future. Joel
January 20, 200917 yr Author Those have horizontal scrolling, what size monitors do you have....thanks
January 20, 200917 yr Hi Helen, I like it nice style very in vouge at the min reminds me a little of Nue(me)dia's website, I personally DONT get horizontal scroll at 1280 x 800 I only get it when i have my delicious toolbar on. Only things I dont like is the vectored self portrait, sorry. and the "who is" section is a bit over familiar as a potential client I would probably just want to know your credentials, and phrases like "tinkering with graphics" would be a bit off putting, if I was hiring you I would'nt want you to be tinkering I would want to be filled with confidence that you 100% know what you are doing, sorry if that seems harsh but I think that small piece of text is contradicting what we can all see, which is that you are a talented web designer.
January 20, 200917 yr Those have horizontal scrolling, what size monitors do you have....thanks 1024 x 768
January 20, 200917 yr Author 1024 x 768 *suppresses urge to make comments on size a la carry on style* Thanks fella
January 20, 200917 yr *suppresses urge to make comments on size a la carry on style* Thanks fella *goes red-faced feeling slightly inadequate *
January 20, 200917 yr Author Sowwy..... It wasn't intended to promote inadequacy, I meant it as in "ooh so you have a big one....." * cue dirty laughlike Babs Windsor*
January 21, 200917 yr *suppresses urge to make comments on size a la carry on style* Thanks fella size matters
January 21, 200917 yr Author size matters And us women who get frowned upon for saying that! Right, I will leave you lot to get on with the "size" debate, I have a portfolio to finish No more portfolio comments for now please - it's undergoing a little change (So most new comments won't even be relevant) Thanking in advance
January 22, 200917 yr And us women who get frowned upon for saying that! Right, I will leave you lot to get on with the "size" debate, I have a portfolio to finish No more portfolio comments for now please - it's undergoing a little change (So most new comments won't even be relevant) Thanking in advance Well this isnt much a comment but I just want to ask your background for the main content, thats a transparent png right? Would it help to make the content background a jpeg instead of a png, and include part of the body background, so that you still have the same transparency effect? ( hope that makes sense) I was just thinking, its a short job to make sure its compliant with IE 6 and less (which shows transparency as grey and blocking out your image), and you can still have the transparency effect made in a graphics package (i.e photoshop) I do like your site though
January 22, 200917 yr Hi Helen, I really like your site. I love the clean simple design. I think you could make it even better by coming up with a way to incorporate your "paint" into the nav like previously suggested. If your looking for something simple maybe have each link a different color from your palette? One last thing.. I think the serif font really doesn't display well, especially at the footer. Good job overall, thanks for sharing.
January 24, 200917 yr Helen, your pages (beside your homepage) are out of alignment in FF3. (See screenshot).
January 24, 200917 yr Author Helen, your pages (beside your homepage) are out of alignment in FF3. (See screenshot). Yes I know, I'm faffing around with the code. Thanks anyway
February 4, 200917 yr Author Made some changes still ongoing though. (also ignore the copy as I will be looking to hire someone in the future to write it for me)
February 4, 200917 yr I love that paint thing. It looks kind of like that iPod Nano advert (Apple, Youtube)
February 4, 200917 yr Hi It is absolutely stunning. Clients will take one look at that, and want to buy in. You could build the base section into the top with ease, and include a “Clients comments section” Perhaps that is the 1% ? Good luck with things.

February 5, 200917 yr I Really like this design Helen, The coloured pool of paint drips is just wonderful, and the contrast against the grey works great. I think you've put together a very professional looking site that should hopefully bring you lot's of clients
