How To Promote A New Website

Featured Replies

I will be launching a new freelance webdesign website where new clients can register and then freelancers can join and bid for work.

now i am not to sure on chargeing a fixed monthly fee or a % of the winning bid. I would like like to hear ideas on the best way to promote the site as i have not got much funding for this site as its cost alot to build already.

So any ideas will be greatly recived.

SEO could be free (financially). You could start by building backlinks on relevant niche sites.

Thanks for replying, do you think it would be worth starting to buy back links before the site goes live, i am hoping that it should be live by sunday.

Probably if you have the time it will be best to search for some free links first.

Thanks for the info,

Are you charging the customer or the designer? I'd assume the latter?

You have a lot of business models to choose from...

Fixed fee of the successful bid

Percentage of the successful bid

Monthly subscription

Annual subscription

Obviously fixed or % fees would maximise revenue in the short term, but subscription a based model would be better for longer term cash flow.

I'd be tempted to offer all of them. Agencies might opt for an annual subscription because they'd probably be able to handle several new projects a month. Freelancers, on the other hand, might only want to bid every so often and might prefer per site fees.

That is very true and i had not looked at it that way, we can implerment a few payment options and i guess the user would be able to choose what payment option they would like.

I was thinking that if i chose a fixed % option of say 3% would this be to much? The other option i have is to charge for diff packages, ie for £10 you can bid on 5 Sites, £15 can charge on 20 and the £20 for unlimited as to speak per month.

Launching a new website is always going to cost money! Whether its seo and linkbuilding, ppc, email marketing etc.

I would come up with a budget- then look at getting some links- directory submission or articles and social bookmarking. I would also be tempted to contact as many web design companies as possible about the new site. You could sift through the web harvesting contact details yourself to save money, or you can pay for it. Offer an incentive initially for web design companies to sign up, ie- no fees for first 10 bids? *im just chucking ideas around here*.

If you have any money left do some ppc. Not necesarily on Google- go social? target web designers of facebook? cpc's are pretty low on facebook right now, or even banner advertising on a website like this one or similar?

Do not buy backlinks. You will be penalised by Google for using paid linking strategies.

You should optimize your site for the search engines properly it will

receive traffic from the major search engines like Goggle, Yahoo, MSN and

others at no additional cost per visitor

* Search engines (Both organic, PPC)

* Article marketing

* Forum marketing

* Blogging

* Giving away free offers

* Video marketing

* Email marketing

* Offline marketing

Write each one on each page of a book and write what to do under that promotion heading.

I suggest you make it free for the meantime. Just to boost viewers but you have to give limit on their free membership. Then later they will upgrade if they like your sites service. :pp

This is basically what you want isn't it? They take a certain percentage of each project and when you put a bid in, it tells you how much money you'll get after taxes and their cut.
