Well...here i am again with a new logo!. The last time i posted my logo, both myself and my partner learnt some valuable tips on creating a succesful logo, and hopefully we have inputted them into our new logo design .

 

From the feedback we gathered from our last logo, we learnt that logo's should contain the following:

• Two/Three Colours Max
  
• No small details, that can't be seen at a small size
  
• Company Name
  

 

Anyways, for those of you who can't remember/haven't seen the previous logo, here it is.

 

After receiving alot of negative feedback from the logo, we decided to change our approach and start from fresh, to produce the following logo.

(I apologise in advance for the demo wrote over the logo, but since both myself and my partner have worked hard on it, we decided to include this writing to protect our work)

The reflections do not sit well together - the cube is reflecting on 2 surfaces that do not relate to the surface the text is reflected against. In my opinion this is causing a lack of balance in your design. Other than that, I like the idea.

The cube is 3D but the words are not which creates a not so good combination. I would suggest making the words 3D also and bringing the cube down behind the words. Then making the words contour the edges of the cube.

Constructive critisism is welcome!, thats why we posted our logo on here in the first place. I think your also right, will have a play around with the text and see what happens . Thanks

Myself and my partner are happy with the font style and spacing, but we may remove the grid effect.

 

hmm does anyone else have an idea as to what i could use instead of a cube?, or suggest an effect/style to apply to the cube to make it more alluring and appealing. The reason we choose the cube in the first place is because it represents a pixel, with a twist.

I really like the text.

Personally I wouldn't make the words 3d as that would be overkill.

 

But as an artist, I can see a tinsy winsy little flaw.

The perspective is all wrong, the box seems far to tilted towards the front. and doesn't really flow in the same direction as the text.

 

May I ask why you chose a cube (I far prefered the concept of the globe and thought that if you pixalated it, it would create a great effect)

ah yeah i see what you mean, hmmm might have a play around with that.

 

Err we decided upon the cube because when we think of pixel, we think of squares. But we decided to add a twist to the pixel by making it 3D and shading one part blue, to match the design part of the font.

 

We did originally pixelate the globe, but after recieving alot of negative feedback, we decided to re-think our design. I'm still not to sure on what approach to take with the logo now. I'm contenplating a new look again

Oh I don't know - I reckon your copywriter is! That's a nicely written piece of marketing (no sarcasm intended). Oh, and a brand is much more than a logo - paramount to success is a strong 'brand' that communicates effectively and lives up to claims - and that's all about words and how you run your business!

The perspective is all wrong, the box seems far to tilted towards the front. and doesn't really flow in the same direction as the text.

Got to agree - and the top face of the cube needs to be "vanishing-pointed" (technical term!) as the top corner sort of sticks up.

Don't use 3D text - it's so 90's! I'd also watch the shadows - if you're using a 3D object you're kind of obliged to ensure the shadows are 'realistically' positioned. My main 3 problems with the design are:

 

1. the hard lines of the cube v the rounded text

2. dull (as in not bright) colours

3. not feeling the cube-to-pixel relationship (as Helen says)

 

My humble suggestion (as neither designer or logo pro!) is to investigate what a "venn-looking RGB triple-dot splodge" would look like. What the heck am I on about? Wish I knew! No, I mean perhaps an image that's made up of 3 overlapping circles - one red, one green and one blue - sort of implying pixels making up a composite image? I wouldn't make them perfect round circles though - splodge them a little. Just an idea!

"GoffeyUK" Partner here, been experimenting with the cube all morning trying to get more and more ideas.

 

Came up with these two designs:

 

This shows a shadow underneath the cube.

 

The second logo shows a reflection underneath the cube.

 

Colours: Grey & Blue (didn't want to use black or have the colours "too" bright)

Cube: chosen to represent a pixel, with a twist. Instead of using a basic square!

Angle: changed the position of the cube to make it look more realistic.

Pixel Effect: this effect was taken off for the time being because we're not too sure about it.

Text: is still the same (we are happy with this part)

Shine: there is a light shine effect on the cube to make the light look as though it is coming out of the cube.

 

Now... We are not too sure about the shine on each of the logos, anyone got any suggestions to improve?

We also can't decide on the reflection underneath like the text... does it look too much? does it match? does it look good?

Also the shadow on the first image... does it look good? work well?

First impressions are good, Kayleigh. The perspective is definitely much better, and it looks cleaner without the grid pattern. I happen to quite like the text you've used, and the 'shine' you've given it. My only worry is the lower-case g, which causes problems with the credibility of the reflection - if it were a real object on a reflective surface then the g would be embedded in the surface! The other alternative would be to shift the whole thing up so the reflection starts where the bottom of the g hits the surface, but then you'd hardly see the reflection for the rest of the characters. Difficult one.

 

As for the cube, I think the shadow works better than the reflection, partly because you've got a second reflection below it and the surfaces don't line up. I also think it looks like there is a second storey underneath the cube which is fading away, rather than it being a reflection.

 

Could you perhaps try putting the box on the left of the text rather than above it? Give them both the same reflective surface to play with? And maybe blur the reflection a bit more so the problem with the g is less obvious.

I think this latest iteration with the reflections is the best so far. I can foresee you might use the cube on the left or right of the text when space dictates and this is where consistency will help. So having reflections on the text and cube would get my vote.

 

Please show us a version without the demo demo demo across it because it's not like someone is going to start a company called pixelise designs and run off with your little cube.

 

It might also be helpful to mock up the different versions of your logo - for example, a black and white version, version with cube on the side and whatever else you can think of.

Yeah it was a hard decision when it came to the g. I've already tried both ways you have mentioned, and i believe it looks better the way it currently is. Although you are right, the g would actually be hitting the surface, it looks rather odd that the reflection occurs after the g. Doesn't look right in my opinion.

Sorry about the Demo demo, just really protective of our work, am sure you'll understand. But yeah, i know what ya saying, so i think we'll upload a version that doesn't include demo demo.

Actually it took longer, we experimented with colours, reflections, shadows, fonts, glossy etc. Time isn't really a factor anyways, we have thought about this logo before we even began creating it in photoshop.

More experimenting taking the feedback into consideration.

This is looking much better, but I agree with the comment about the reflection on the text and the letter g- for me this is the only thing holding the logo back now. Have you tried the text without any reflection, or tried moving it so it starts under the g?

Personally, i think the reflection underneath the G doesn't look right. It looks much better the way it is.

That logo is way better that the old one. I do think that it is a more generic looking logo though and doesn't really stand out.

i don't agree with that statement. I haven't seen a cube based logo that looks like ours yet. The text maybe is similar to others, but features different colours, font and glossy effect.

 

I've obviously seen the reflection effect before, but i suppose thats part of the influence as to why, i created this text in the first place.

15 mins? Sure you could reproduce whats done in a shorter time than all morning but it takes time to conceptulalize an idea and playing around seeing what looks good. Look at the Nike symbol... i could make that in about 15 seconds.. u think it took them 15 seconds to make it? no

 

I'm liking the logo the best without any dropshadows or reflections personally. I think the logo is looking pretty good. The "g" makes the reflection tough to look right and just not a fan of drop shadows on logos.
