I've had my small toy store from Amazon for many weeks now and it isn't doing anything so I'm thinking I need to take it down. I believe most folks would rather go directly to Amazon to purchase most anything.

We are starting the third season here in the States. It started with a really good episode and once again I'm hooked. I've been watching this series since the first time it aired. I think it continues to get better all the time.

I'm also a beginner and appreciate the suggestions in this thread. I've never used any of the software mentioned so far. I've been using Google's Picassa for photos and I like it pretty well. I have only learned how to edit photos with it so far.

Does having an Amazon store or an Ebay store or someone else's store on your site cause people to return to your site to do their shopping? If I were the shopper, I would go directly to the Amazon site, wouldn't most people? I'm not sure how helpful this kind of commerce is for a website.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I actually have two .com domains and one .info domain. All three are waiting for me to decide which of my interests I want to pursue with them. I haven't had them too long but times a wasting.

I've actually considered having a forum. There are so many forums online now. They seem to be very popular with a lot of people. I wonder if there is room for another one. I have a cheesy idea for a forum but am not ready to discuss it yet. I need to decide pretty soon!

How did you choose the topic for your website? Maybe I should say niche or subject. I have a domain name waiting for me to do something with it. I haven't been able to decide what I want to do. I already have a personal site and would like to make this something useful that will cause people to want to return. I have a lot of interests but there isn't anything that I'm an expert at. How did you choose?

I also have a tendency to start on the design and the color schemes first because it's fun. After I've finished that I start adding my content and pictures. I have considered that this may be backwards though. I wonder if I need to decide what my site is going to be about and what kind of content it will have and then choose a design that compliments the main reason for the site. I don't know.

I really like sites that have a lot of black or dark grey but with a white backgroud for the text. I also like some dark red as an accent. My next choice in color schemes would be a medium but not bright shade of blue. I like the appearance of sites that have a colored background but it's really hard to read the text, in my opinion.

The thing I hate most on some web pages is the annoying pop-up ads. I have a pop-up blocker and it's a good one but some of those things still get through. Actually I have several pop-up blockers working on my computer! There are a few sites that I visit that are horrendous for pop-ups. Within minutes you can have several of them bogging down the computer. Will there ever be a way to eliminate all of them?

Is anyone using Google's Picassa to store and edit photos and graphics? I use to have Photoshop but recently tried Picassa and like it because it seems easier to me. I'm just beginning on editing photos so I needed something that was easy. So far, I'm having good luck with it.

I'm looking for a tutorial that will teach me how to build a basic web site without using a web hosts website builder like I always have in the past. My current web site was built with a web hosts builder and I get complaints about the layout. I'd like to learn to do my own. I hope this makes it more clear as to what I'm looking for.
