Does having an Amazon store or an Ebay store or someone else's store on your site cause people to return to your site to do their shopping? If I were the shopper, I would go directly to the Amazon site, wouldn't most people? I'm not sure how helpful this kind of commerce is for a website.

I go to the main site, also. I'm not sure how one would get people to use their "store" over going to the main site. That's a good question.

I had an ebay store to be able to list things at a lower cost but in the end it cost me a lot more because things were not selling. Some people say they make money at ebay but if you are just selling things to clear them out you have to sell most things low and by the time you list and all the payments for that and paypal if you use it...you don't get much out of it. Sometimes only pennies. And if it doesn't sell it costs you...especially if you list several times without selling!

 

Some resort to gauging you with the shipping but I don't like to do that myself. It's ok to cover packaging costs but I've seen people charge over 7 dollars to ship a book that I know would should for under 2 dollars!

 

Since they have rules about the information you can include I was unable to refer people to my online store for similar items so it didn't do any good to promote my business either.

I was having a ebay store last year but it was not worth so i close it and then signup for adwords and now selling things from my site with comparitively high ROI

It seems like being on Amazon is probably extremely helpful for a small e-commerce; the navigation is really simple

Ebay stores have kind of become a waste of resources. You can get one on Hibidder or Blujay or Ecrater for free. Hibidder is the only one that charges you if the item sells, and it is a very tiny amount. If you get a home page, you can point to all of your stores in one place and reach a broader range of customers.

You shouldn't take it down. Let's say it's not doing anything for you now, but maybe one day, someone will accidentally see a book in the banners, remind about it and click to buy it. An Amazon store cannot do much for you if you have only 10-20 visitors a day... You are still at the beginning. Wait and see!

Well, when it comes to Amazon, I go directly through Amazon's main site. Ebay is different though, because that's all independent sellers & isnt major retailers like on Amazon. Usually if someone has an Ebay store full of a certain product, it will be less expensive than a seller that has only one to a handful of that same item. It's just basic laws of supply/demand & the way our economy works. Therefore it benefits me to find someone with a larger supply of what I want.

 

(Yes, Amazon has individual sellers that sell used versions of products, but Amazon is still different than Ebay)

I think a lot of people have started going to froogle to comparison shop for items available on the various ecommerce sites, but truly a lot of people simply will not buy from a source outside the big names. I think it is a sense of security; the sites have a wider reputation and a heavier user base.

I'd have to agree. Whenever I shop online I shop with the big store brands because I feel much more confident that I'll get the product and also get it for a low/fair price. I think a lot of people are scared of identity theft and feel like there is a greater chance that something might go wrong (like not receiving product, again identity theft, damaged product, or the product isn't what it says it is, etc.).
