  1. Sorry mate, I gave this a go but it won't work for me. When I place the full code inside a div on the HTML page and amend it I get a syntax error on the line: $access_token = file_get_contents I'm not even sure I created an app properly, I couldn't register the test app I created for this purpose as it has no active users. I've uploaded this attempt online but the page is password protected, I'll PM you the username and password for accessing it.
  2. I've looked at the tutorial you provided along with the example on the Bellingham site and although it's exactly what I require but I can't really follow the steps. Where do I enter the code given? I created an empty cachefile.json file in Notepad (it says it's a text file). I know I'm not really supporting what I said above regarding having some experience but please put up with this fool a little longer!
  3. Excellent mate, I'll give that a go. Everyone in this thread is awesome!
  4. Not sure where to begin on that front, I have experience with Javascript and to a lesser extent PHP but can't follow what you're saying. I checked out Facebook Developers but can't find a suitable API.
  5. Unfortunately none of those, I'd like it so that if I add an image or status update etc. it will appear through a feed on my site. Kind of like how Twitter is used here.
  6. I wanted to add a Facebook Feed to a site I'm creating but can't figure out how to. I know how to add a Like Button, Activity Feed, Comment Box etc. but what I want is for a visitor to the site to see anything I post using my profile (be it status changes, images, comments etc.). Any help is greatly appreciated!
  7. I think a large number of her audience are not members of Facebook or any other similar social networking tool. With that in mind a guestbook seems like the best method, I just wondered if there was something else instead.
  8. I'm making a website for a musician who wants a platform to showcase her music. She has asked me to include a guestbook where visitors can leave her comments, is the term guestbook outdated and if so what is a better term (community maybe)? It would be on its own page. Here's a guestbook I put together for another site several years ago using MJGUEST (the last update to which was July, 2008), as I said above I think it may be outdated.
  9. Thanks, would using an image with the number as an alt tag be a good way around it?
  10. I do, this will happen on any IE browser on a computer with Skype running?
  11. Sorry, I've edited it there now.
  12. I just tested it in IE and got no errors. Why does the telephone number appear as it does in the attached file? Why is font-face appearing so jagged? Appreciate the help!
  13. I moved them last night and forgot to change the location. I won't be able to check if it works until Monday as I don't work Friday to Sunday though I'm pretty sure the problem was there on the old domain (nialldevlin.com). The problem appears on Safari and FF at work (can't test on any other browsers). Incidentally it is a Macbook, it worked fine on 2 iMacs, 1 PC and 1 Windows laptop.
  14. I've been having a go at using font-face and find that although it appears fine on my home computer, home laptop and 2 friends computers the fonts don't appear on my work laptop. I even created a sign up form using Wufoo which presents the same problem. Is font-face reliable or should I just stick to web standard fonts / images? Is cufon better? I also notice that (on my home laptop at least) the font-face fonts are not very smooth. The site in question. Username: waka Password: waka
  15. I'm looking to add a store (to purchase albums and possibly digital downloads) to a website I'm in the initial stages of designing. I'm new to e-commerce and as a result unsure of what's what... I've looked into using a Paypal shopping cart as it seems relatively easy to put together. Am I right in thinking that anyone who wants to make a purchase must first have a Paypal account (no option to just enter credit card details via a form)? I've also been looking at OpenCart but need more time to get my head around the workings of it. Is it the way to go? What was used to build this? My client is looking for something that I can customise to suit her site, Affordability is also a big concern. Any help is appreciated on a big scale!
  16. Anyone know how? C'mon, think of it as a challenge (one I couldn't beat)!
  17. Ah, forgot to add an S, thanks for the heads up. I've been meaning to change it to CSS but the idea of having to all those pages is intimidating! I can't seem to edit my original post, so here's the working link.
  18. I have a website with a very bad archive page (i.e. it's all on one page and pretty bulky as a result). I'd like to improve it by breaking it up into separate pages by year and month, problem is I don't know how and can't find anything of use online! How can I make it so that I can have a drop-down list from which users can select a year, another list for month and a button that will take them to the appropriate page? This is the closest thing I've found, but I don't want the lists to take them where they want, just a button based on what is selected from the lists. Oh, and sorry for using tables instead of CSS for my site, but I was very young when I started it! Any help is immensely appreciated! Niall
  19. That works, thanks edster! How do I remove the divider at the very bottom of the feed though? Any takers on solving how to arrange the text in a field (as I mentioned at the beginning of the thread)?
  20. Here's the site.
  21. I don't, but if needed I can upload it somewhere temporarily after I finish work.

I'm adding a Twitter feed to a website I'm working on, something I've never done before and am therefore inexperienced. I decide to try a design of my own by creating a concept in Photoshop (attached [draft2.png), I then followed an online tutorial to create an existing design that I could customise. I edited the CSS and added my own divs, but was limited to how much I could change to my liking (attached [incorrect.png]: .twitterfeed { width: 240px; float: left; background-color: #D4D4D4; border: thin solid #8c8c8c; margin: 10px; font-size: 11px; font-weight: 600; } .twittertop { } .avatar { width: 69px; height: 65px; float: left; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 15px; margin-right: 10px; background-image: url(../Images/Misc/Twitter/avatar.png); } .follow { padding-top: 7px; } #twitter_div { border: 1px solid #D4D4D4; } #twitter_update_list { margin: 0; overflow: hidden; } #twitter_update_list li { padding: 5px 5px 5px 5px; border-bottom: solid 1px #680441; list-style: none; } #twitter_update_list li a { color: #090; text-decoration: none; } #twitter_update_list li a:hover { color: #936; border-bottom: solid 1px; } I can't figure out how to incorporate my own idea for dividers between each tweet to replace the lines, how to align about xx hours ago and reply and how to change the colour of individual links instead of one overall colour and remove/add links. Hope I've covered it all!
  23. I am creating a series of buttons for a site that each has an icon representing the corresponding section e.g. a car for motoring, pint glass for pub/bar etc. If I were to trace around an image found online (likely to be watermarked but not necessarily) and traced it using Flash/Illustrator to make a less detailed version but retaining a likeness to the original (I would change colour too) would I still be infringing on copyright?
  24. I'll start by saying this site was redesigned and that the previous version (a Flash site) was also very bad in the hit compartment. I've had the redesign active for about 2 weeks and apart from the second day when it got 55 hits it has been getting hardly any (less than 20, usually even less than 10). I've added suitable alt attributes anywhere I can and registered with Google. What else can I do to the site itself as the web designer (I was hired by a client)? Do I just need to be patient? Are meta worth adding?
  25. I'm in the initial stages of creating a site for a client. As I told him, it will be my first venture into using Wordpress. Anyway, he wants a section of his site where users can view a list of relevant jobs available in the area. 2 things he would like to know are: Will he need to enter the job details himself or can that be done by the person advertising the post (maybe restricted access to wp-admin)? Can he charge people to advertise on his job listings page and if so can you elaborate? Cheers! Niall
