  1. Ok what im after is very simple.. yet I cant find anywhere that provides a simple solution. Imagine a 3 page website.. home page, about us, contact no need for massive CMS like Joomla etc, all I want is for the user to log in, and be able to edit the text as and when on each given page. Thats it. Also with the flexibility for me to create a complete custom designed site.. and put these blocks of text in as and where I like afterwards. Yet without the user needing to use FTP, XML etc. Any ideas?? Thanks.
  2. Im looking for a product catalogue which will list products in a left hand style menu, and also allowing sub categories for each product! But cant seem to find anything! Any suggestions? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the advice.. so that would work alongside Joomla? Also any other recommendations? Thanks
  4. I am to create a site for a company that want to be able to add product category pages, and products within those categories.. however they are not selling online! Simply a display showcase.. so no shop needed. They also want to be able to add uploads of PDF manuals for each product, as well as a personal login area for traders to view specific downloads. What would you recommend is the best CMS to handle all this? Would Drupal be capable? Thanks
  5. Yeh think thats the problem.. to do a succesfull one theyve gotta be free (but if you can get good sponsors your sorted) otherwise your wasting your own personal time once a month Id personally like to see an open one for web designers, experienced and not so experienced.. no tutorials just - Latest Web trends - Latest technologies - Latest software - features on like SEO, marketing, design process - interviews with designers of top sites and their process a general guide keeping you up to date with the current web design genre without having to hunt for it and find out to late. Is it toooo much to ask lol
  6. Can anyone recommend a good web designer pod cast? Or web related with updates of all latest trrends technologies etc in? Ive listend to boagworld in the past and its more them yapping about other stuff than web related, and the.net magazine ones now just a video cast with really simple stuff on it. (also have you guys at web designer forum ever thought about doing one i guarantee it would be better than the majority out there at the moment)
  7. Yep that code will add a break using a margin (rather than empty image) after every image within the specified div tag.
  8. Changing them back to their original colour would be impossible.. unless youve got 3 years to gues seach pixel lol, so im guessing your talking about adding a single colour effect over the entire image if thats the case theres 2 ways and its quite simple first method.. [image] - [adjustments] - [photo filter] - choose colour and your colour, and play with the density... this adds like a nice old photo style effect if you use a brown second method.. [image] - [adjustment] - [variations] and just pick each colour from below to add bits of that colour to make up the one your after also before both its wisse to desaturate the image you start with.. just to make sure its pure black and white and not got some dodgey hidden blues in there etc. hope that helps
  9. Without reading throught php thouroughly im guessing it uses a DB to pick up numerous images, so instering an image after each one is a long way of doing it and would require writing more (and pointless) php Your best bet is to enclose the image section in its own div tag for example <div class="imageshere"> php image code </div> then set in the css the following .imageshere img { margin-right:589px; } thats the simplist and less codemungering way of doing what your after
  10. Thanks guys... yeh you can see why I was a bit stumped too.. Yeh he is being sincere, and means on top of my pay. We already have a bonus scheme for no sick leave in place, and the problem is I only ammend and create a n umber of sites internally for the sections of the business so cant measure on customer feedback.. thanks anyway guys.. like u said its a tuffy.
  11. Just need some advice, and to see if anyone already works as a full time web designer fopr a company and is on (or heard of) any form of bonus scheme for designers? Basically my boss aproached me before xmas and said he wants to put me on a form of bonus scheme, and could I think of one! The only thing I can really think of is outline the tasks for each month and if their completed then = bonus!? Just seieng if anyone is on anything simular, or has been that they can advise me? Cheers
  12. nice layout and styling Just very busy with info.. need some content strategy
  13. So what do you thinks gonna shape the web for us in 09? Personally I think its gotta be more mobile based web apps and content! (as if we didnt have it before the iphone) but with the recent blinded media hype over the iphone its forced people to think about designs for smaller devices, whereas before it was more likley to be at the back of the list of browsers to design for. Those are my views! Any other hot trends you think are gonna hit in 09? Are we gona be ruled by an ajax custom moveable web?
  14. Does anyone know of a php script or any way of creating my own continuously updated RSS feed.. I know how to create an RSS feed but obviously once its created its static... I need it to automatically updated when the content is updated.. ive found www.feed43.com which does it and creates it for you and with their free account updates every 6 hours But surely theres got to be a way of doing this myself.. google searches returned nothing relevant or what im looking for. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.
  15. Latest site ive made for our new product brand at work, the graffiti theme is going to work alongside some things we'll be doing at car shows throughout next year! let me know what you think cheers http://www.edgecaraudio.com
  16. Looks funky and different just 2 points I would say is the box has shaddow at the bottom but the splats at the top dont appear to have, if its all ment to be as one piece? if so shouldnt they have drop shaddow too? Only other point I would say perhaps consider a gradient in with the red as the solid colour hurts they eye a bit lol! Like the over all design though
  17. Hahaha frames and everything! thats gotta be a joke lol I just sent an email to my boss saying I think we should take a leaf from these guys book.. more frams and a magic hat to enter lol!
  18. another usefull link.. http://demo.script.aculo.us/shop
  19. Thanks wizely yep im aware of the markup problems.. thats gonna be my final sweep through the site once its complete lol, still ony really half way to being how I want it to be atm, but cheers. and yeh agreed with the streetrace comments too preetha, its sort of the target audience its aimed at (but if you look top right theres a drop down box to choose clean style) that might be more your liking lol thanks peoples.
  20. viewing at 1280 x 1024 on IE7, its stopped moving around now but still sits slightly over to the left (doesnt fit in the background)
  21. Im not really one for hacks youd be best getting it all working naturally! With what your doing this is easily acheivable without conditional statements. But sometimes they are necessary in which case use a different css to link to for IE 6.. eg <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="css/stylesheet.css" /> <!--[if lt IE 7]><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="/css/ie_override.css" /><![endif]-->
  22. Thanks for the feedback guys and hey will_doyle.. yeh I remember the name, youve not been on in a while and keep the feedback coming.. good and bad all welcome. Cheers
  23. as bluedreamer says the quickest and easiest way is to use a .htaccess file within the subdirectory of your secret area. To do this create a file called .htacces in notepad with the following content AuthUserFile *put the direct path to your root here*/public_html/.htpasswd AuthType Basic AuthName "My Secret Folder" Require valid-user then create a file called .htpasswd (make sure its stored in the place you specified in the first line of the .htaccess file) now in the .htpasswd file you have to put an ecrypted version of your username and password! to encrypt it you can use any free encryption tools on the net for example http://www.4webhelp.net/us/password.php
  24. Great example of a liquid layout site top stuff!
  25. its a bit all over the shop at the moment lol! Looks like your trying to go with fixed width so just follow these 3 simple guidelines... Set the background (with repeat or no repeats etc) and outer margins in your body tag i.e body { background:url(../yourbackground.gif) top repeat-x; font: 62.5% Arial, Helvetica, Tahoma, sans-serif; margin: 0px 0 0 0; padding: 0; height: 100%; } then put all your content including header etc within a content div using 'margin: 0 auto'; i.e #content { margin: 0 auto; width: 800px; position: relative; min-height: 100%; height: auto !important; } now all content will go within the content div eg.. <body> <div id="content"> all feckin content here </div> </body>
