Bonus scheme for web designer?

Featured Replies

Just need some advice, and to see if anyone already works as a full time web designer fopr a company and is on (or heard of) any form of bonus scheme for designers?

Basically my boss aproached me before xmas and said he wants to put me on a form of bonus scheme, and could I think of one! The only thing I can really think of is outline the tasks for each month and if their completed then = bonus!?

Just seieng if anyone is on anything simular, or has been that they can advise me?

Cheers

Hmm, I'd be a little weary, ask him if it changes anything with your current pay or salary, or if it is on top of your current pay, otherwise he may be fiddling you a bit. If he is being sincere and is thinking of bonuses to improve peoples morale, efficiency and motivation then it's pretty good, and I'd suggest that he gives people bonuses upon their completion of websites in good timing, hard working, punctuality and recommendations/good comments.

I'm only 18, so don't take it word for word, coming from an A-Level Business point of view, that's perfect (I've finished the course now, aced it).

Perhaps these:

1. for completing all jobs on time

2. for low or zero sick leave for the year

3. for attending on time throughout the year

4. for suggesting improvements that would benefit the company

5. personal improvement, ie learn something new and become competent in it

1 and 3 should be happening anyway :)

4 and 5 are good to incentivise, although probably too open to interpretation to use as a yearly bonus system.

It's a tough one, 'cos bonuses are basically a reward for exceeding expectations, and that's quite hard to measure in this field. Does the company have some kind of feedback form for clients? Maybe they could have a bit where the client rates the service or the quality of what they got and a bonus calculated from the ratings over the year?

Thanks guys... yeh you can see why I was a bit stumped too..

Yeh he is being sincere, and means on top of my pay. We already have a bonus scheme for no sick leave in place, and the problem is I only ammend and create a n umber of sites internally for the sections of the business so cant measure on customer feedback..

thanks anyway guys.. like u said its a tuffy.

My 9-5 is as a web producer but similarly to you, I only work on a number of sites. The way our bonus scheme works is that every quarter of the year we are rated by our managers on a points system. At the end of the year, a certain number of points equates to a certain percentage bonus, so for example 5 points equals 1% or 20 points equals 5% bonus. Not a fantastic system but as people have said, it's a toughy!

My bonus is simple, at the end of the month if the company has made over x amount in profit I get a fixed bonus amount. But I think this only works because we are a small company and normally I am the one doing the design work and front end coding....I don't think this scheme would work for a bigger company, as it would eat too much into the profits.
