  1. Can anyone recommend a solution that gives me all the flexibility of a VPS, whereby the hired company manage all the server side activity i.e. WHM or other such. For example a website that breaches the fair usage of a shared hosting account from a company that really can't afford a private server and in-house server manager. It would be more preferable if this is a UK company with UK servers, so if you do know of anyone please let me know. Thanks for you wisdom in advance!
  2. Thanks for the reply terranetwork - I've managed to narrow the issue down to softaculous installations of Wordpress??? Any manual installations are set up correctly and work fine - its very odd and in my inexperience I'm not sure why this occurs. Any thoughts??? Thanks again Martin
  3. I have about 20 domains as add-ons via cpanel (same account) on a VPS using a custom nameserver. I migrated about 15 sites onto the server all of which are wordpress built sites. All of those 15 sites load fine when entering or clicking a link for www.thedomainname.co.uk for example or even http://thename... which then resolves to the www. version. The additional 5 domains have been added after the VPS was activated (on to the exact same account as previous 15) and subsequently www. results in a page not found scenario, where only http://versions work. I am new to VPS but do not appreciate being told not bother if I don't know what I'm doing - Which is the reaction I got off some idiot on the cpanel forum. Do you tell a non-driver to stay away from a car if they don't know what they're doing? No - I want to learn and am here for expert advice! Any pointers, tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  4. Hi I'm looking to set up a PDF download site for private members - the wordpress set up is such that the typical memership plugins still leave media uploads pretty much public. Whilst there are hacks and plugins that claim to be able to rectify this issue the jury still appears to be out on whats the actual definitve solution to this. My question is should I wish to create a membership based site for downloading PDFs is there a more suitable CMS that can 100% block access to all uploads unless you're a registered user. Thanks

  12. Hi all... I hope this doesn't get moved or deleted... this is not an advert! I have been working on my SEO for a website of mine for about 6 months and I have personally gained a lot of information from posting in the forums on this site and one memebr has stood out for responding with simple and effective responses.. 'Jason Dexter' Having improved the initial rank of my website with my own efforts from 'off the chart' to page 11-ish I decided to hire someone for some advice. I had a relatively small budget in terms of the industry standard and put it to Jason to have a look at my site. My primary search term was 'Wedding Photography Leeds' for thatbigday(.co.uk) I am pleased to announce that Jason's Efforts over the last 6 weeks as seen my site jump to position 2 of page 2 - YES I am two places away from Page 1 and that particular search engine still hasn't picked up all of the SEO that Jason has implemented. I feel it is only right to give him a public pat on the back and to say thank you - I most definitely recommend Jason and will continue to work with him in the future. Great work Jason - Thanks again Martin
  13. I do agree, but if you don't encourage an obvious novice to be unique first off, they are for my likely to go out and choose something unoriginal from a generic supplier. If in their design process, unique was one of their drivers they are then less likely to come up against copyright or trademark issues. I stand by unique it's a good practice to follow, accidents do happen and yes its hard to be original these days due to the 'off the shelf' sellers but if you can prove you haven't directly copied a design you can often play dumb if you come accross challanges to your final logo. PS Your not the only person to say timeless (not a personal attack!)
  14. Thanks for this.. so assuming the posts start to rank more favourably than the home page, would it be more beneficial to run a backlinking campaign to that post? or continue trying to push the homepage, if i decided against using experts that is.
  15. I think the word i'm looking for is doh!! Thanks for that!
  16. Brand comes first, design comes second... Understand your brand by asking yourself a number of questions... Who are my customers, what makes them tick, what is my main offering, what does the business stand for... etc. Any more and I'll have to start charging a consultancy fee! Essentially we are lead by emotions, impulse to buy is an emotion and a lot of Logo's stimulate impulse. So to start think about what emotions you want to stimulate. Trigger an emotion with your logo and your on the right path. Timeless is bollucks! You can't make a logo timeless, it only becomse timeless once its been successfull for a time! Aesthetics like simple or uncomplicated are also secondry considerations... simply start with Emotive, relevant, unique. Shameless plug, but I am available for custom design work. Thanks Martin
  17. Hi the site in question pulls a number of posts/pages (Wordpress) to the homepage and uses that data as the bulk of it's text based info. So whilst there is content on the homepage, it is merely duplicated from the aforemntioned locations. I have the yoast seo plugin taking care of all the various tags and canonicals... but is the lack of unique content on that homepage going to cause a ranking issue? Will the posts/pages be viewed as the original location rendering the homepage useless and actually deemed duplicate by the search engines? Thanks Martin
  18. Has anyone used or have a recommendation for an event booking plugin for wordpress? I have a singer with a website who wants to manage all their bookings online, without too much admin and with possible options to sync to webmail calendars as well? Thanks Martin
  19. Great mixed opinions... I think I'll take the no harm in trying stance on this one and opt for 301 from the Keyword domain to the business branded website. Excellent stuff guys.
  20. What do you mean by spam? I have it on good authority that having a key word loaded URL is a great start for your SEO campaign. Are you suggesting that the name I have chosen is spam, or to avoid anything that that may come accross as spam generally? Thanks Martin
