  1. Any one else has got a beter suggestion before I buy my very first book through Amazon? It's either what mrchristoph had suggested above (CSS Missing - David Sawyer) or this: html, xhtml and ccs bible book by steven schafer - http://www.amazon.co.uk/HTML-XHTML-Bible-Steven-Schafer/dp/0470523964/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1272294554&sr=1-1-spell.
  2. Does anyone know what the best and most secure open source CMS?
  3. Thank you very much. But I'm finding it hard to just read via computer all the time. I want to buy a single best book on html, xhrml and css.
  4. I can only afford to buy one "XHTML And CSS" Book I've seen the html, xhtml and ccs bible book by steven schafer. Is this any good? or would you advise another one for me to keep. I appreciate that there are plenty of online tutorials, but I can't spend the whole time on the computer/internet. So if you're just a starter like me (who only has about two weeks reading/experience on html and css) what xhtml and css book would you keep?
  5. I prefer a text instead of an image to be used as logo on the site. cany anyone suggest a good font? This way I can narrow down my choices.
  6. Does anyone have a copy of checklist or questionnaire that they ask their potential client to fill in? Anyone kind enough to share it with me.
  7. Do you know what cms is used on this site
  8. If you are to create a website for your client and it needs 11 pages: Unique homepage layout 2 different page layout - 5 of each Would you create this using html page or would you use some sort of CMS? Just thinking if client may need to change/update the content in the future? What are your criteria from deciding? I've seen this site and the layout, I think, is excellent. I'm assuming this kind of website is CMS as promos etc.. will need to be updated evry now and again.
  9. Cheers mate. I shall try it now and see if it works. I'll let you know either way.
  10. I think the link you provided requires mootools of some sort. It also discusses drop down menus. Both of which is just beyond my current knowledge of html and css. All I wanted is just make the hovered menu link to have a round edge background. It doesn't contain any drop down of any sort. Would appreciate if you can kindly expand the code you provided above. My head just couldn't make it to work and am struggling for a couple of days to figure it out.
  11. Hiya guys. Saw this Magnolia site. When you hover the mouse on the menu it has an "aqua colour" background. Is the rounded corner purely css with no image used? Anyone is kind enough to share the code? I tried for hours and nothing seems to work
  12. After 8 hours I managed to figure this one out. Many Thanks.
  13. It's beginning to makes sense to me now. Many Thanks.
  14. Do I just put that above code as it is? Does it matter where exactly? Does that mean, if the link is an error page, they will be redirected to notfound.html? or will the user remain on an error link but displays the content from notfound.html?
  15. Just realised upon mistakenly typed a misspelled adddress which is inexistent on my site (example.com/wrong.html)it displays an 404 - page not found message with the Hostgator background. How can I possibly change this, so it displays my own 404 message with the layout in keeping with my homepage? I am quite a newbie and only have a few files created at the moment: index.html .htaccess style.css image.png
  16. Hi. Id been playing a bit with html and css. My html code contains the content, the footer and then the menu link thereafter. I want to align the menu to the right side of the body but under the logo of course. It is aligned on the right side but it seems to just stay under the footer. Anyone kind enough to guide me through. Here's the sequence: body logo h1 h2 <p> h3 <p> h3 <p> h3 <p> footer <a> menu <a> body I want the menu to be on the right side but to align with where the h2 is. I'm not using any tables. They are all purely div's. Hope it makes sense.
  17. Thanks. And to everyone who had been quite patient with me
  18. Many Thanks. Although not absolutely essential, it's clear to me now that it remains important to have a bit of interaction within the site. I shall try and learn this when I'm a little more confident with html and css.
  19. But visiting csszen, the html code contains a lot of <div id's and only the <p's contain the class.
  20. Resell? A bit confuse with this. If you're designing a website for a client, I'm hoping this doesnt constitute a resell as you're actually charging for the service, right?
  21. I'm still confuse as to which one to use. id or class? anyone got a simple explanation?
  22. In order to design some beautiful webpages, do I really need to learn and use javascript apart from html/xhtml/css? I envision of creating websites for businesses that offer services as well as goods. It would be nice if the websites does not look dull and a little engaging. Can you cite some examples of websites that does not use javascript, php etc...? Sample websites that is just purely html/xhtml/css yet looks really beautiful, modern, somewhat engaging and a 21st century designs. Feel free to provide links be it your own site or a site that you admire.
  23. Also, it would be nice if any of you will kindly answer my queries here: http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/topic/34531-photo-images/ and here: http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/topic/34532-logo-design/
  24. If I call myself a front-end web developer, the only issue in the future will be, potential clients may ask who will deal with the back-end when you're only creating websites that is purely html.
