Web Designer or Web Developer?
If I'm to build websites using html/xhtml and define the layout using css. I probably will have to get someone to actually create any difficult logo's and fancy images as well as background images. Am I classed as a web designer then?

Logo Design
1. I know you actually own the brand name itself but how can you assure that the actual design of a logo done by a particular designer is not copyrighted? Both the actual fonts used, pattern, symbols as well as background design and images surrounding the website brand itself. What are the things I should bear in mind, check and ascertain? 2. Some websites seems to have similar background image. Is there a link to royalty free stocks of ready to use background images that you can use in an unlimited number of websites? 3. I know it is best to learn how to design all the images and web graphics myself but when you're just learning how to code a website using html/xhtml as well as css it probably is a bit too much to learn how to create images at the same time. Having said that, what will be the best piece of graphics/image/photo creators you can recommend. I only need one for a start. Cheers.

Backround Images and Web Graphics/Logo
If I want to place a photo on a webpage with this dimension: 3072x2304 and file size: of 2.1 MB How do I properly resize it to 600x200 900x150 etc... with an acceptable filesize how can I achieve this? Another website I saw is this: http://www.zachklein.com/ How did he managed to do the image used as background? Also, the actual image size is 112 kb. Is that file size acceptable? It seems quite fast when it loads.

Web Design Trends for 2010
I found this site highlighting some of the web design trends for this year: http://webdesignledger.com/tips/web-design-trends-for-2010 I saw one of the chosen website (no. 13 Intro Boxes): http://www.alessandro-cavallo.de/ And as a newbie, I viewed its page source. And the h1 tag is text: Hello my name is Alessandro Cavallo I do web and graphic design Why is it that when you view the image, the above text is actually an image (http://www.alessandro-cavallo.de/images/headlineNameBlue.png) instead of a text? How is this done exactly? Will you not be penalised by google for hiding the text under an image?

Is Plain HTML Page safer than PHP Pages? or vice versa
Re: HTML can still be attacked via ftp, hosting passwords, cpanel I'm assuming this is all related to the password used, right? So creating a strong password will virtually eliminate the risk of attacks.

Logo Copyright
I think initially, I might focus on learning and applying html, xhtml and css codes. In the meantime, I might get the actual background images as well as logo done by someone else. Here's my question: 1. I know you actually own the brand name itself but how can you assure that the actual logo design done by a particular designer is not copyrighted? Both the actual fonts used, pattern as well as the symbols used next to the name. What are the things I should bear in mind, check and ascertain? 2. Some websites seems to have similar background image. Is there a link to royalty free stocks of ready to use background images that you can use in an unlimited number of websites? Many Thanks.

Backround Images and Web Graphics/Logo
As you probably can see, I'm quite new to html/css and learning a lot from w3schools site. I know I can change the web layout by coding the html/css. My question is this: How do I learn and be able to create background images/logo etc...? Additionally, if I want to place a photo on a webpage with this dimension: 3072x2304 and file size: of 2.1 MB but want it to be resized to 600x200 900x150 etc... with an acceptable filesize how can I achieve this? Also, I would appreciate if there are any rules and best practice recommendations that I should follow as well as a link to a good site re: this.

Different Browser Compatibility
How are you able to validate browser compatibility of a particular website? say test on IE6/IE7 when you only have a single computer. Sorry, if im asking a stupid question. Also, it would be nice if you can give me advice on how to check it on all most common browsers. heers.

Protect CSS File
Sorry, I think I probably confused you a little bit. I wasn't trying to protect the images on a particular site. But I want to know is, if you can protect your actual css code which is located in the style.css folder and which can be viewed and maybe copied when someone visited that css page (example.com/style/style.css). You don't really want people to copy your long hours spent coding the css. But just wondering if this is at all possible.

Protect CSS File
Are you able to protect your css file so it can't be access/open/copied by others? If so, can someone tell me how. Thanks.

Newbie here. Would like to become a web designer
Thank you very much indeed BlueDreamer. Re: CSS, can you site some examples of less known but reliable/secure open source CMS? Just wondering with the images whether you actually resize them or you alter the size via css. This may sound stupid but does this affect the site's seo at all?

Homepage file name
But is there a way to just make my homepage point to example.com/ instead of example.com/index.html? Wordpress blogs seems to direct the homepage to example.com/ instead of the link with the /index.php.
-
Homepage file name
I hope I'm posting this in the right category Why is it that some homepage only has this address on the url: example.com while others has example.com/index.html or ./home.html or /home.php etc... I'm assuming when creating an html for homepage you cane name that file as index.html or home.html etc... If I'm to create an html webpage as my homepage, how can I make my homepage url be example.com/ without the trail as above? Hope this question makes sense.

Thank you very much indeed nellyshark. The link seems great. If I want to replace the images, I'm assuming that changing the image link on css as well as ensuring it's the same width and height will do the trick. Will it? Also, if the new image I've got is a different size, how do I alter the size? Some online image resizer seems to distort the actual image.
