Do I really need Javascript?

Featured Replies

In order to design some beautiful webpages, do I really need to learn and use javascript apart from html/xhtml/css?

I envision of creating websites for businesses that offer services as well as goods. It would be nice if the websites does not look dull and a little engaging.

Can you cite some examples of websites that does not use javascript, php etc...? Sample websites that is just purely html/xhtml/css yet looks really beautiful, modern, somewhat engaging and a 21st century designs.

Feel free to provide links be it your own site or a site that you admire.

Have a look at Zen Garden for some purely html/css examples.

All of the designs are created using the same html.

Certainly gives you a feel for the power of css alone.

Javascript is useful to make pages more interactive and give a "dynamic" feeling to the user.

I don't really love using Javascript: I use it only when I have to.

Anyway, I think that know how to use frameworks like jQuery is needed to design modern pages today.

Many Thanks. Although not absolutely essential, it's clear to me now that it remains important to have a bit of interaction within the site. I shall try and learn this when I'm a little more confident with html and css.

In terms of need, you don't need Javascript or PHP to make a website, but of the two - you need PHP more than you need Javascript...
