Design Feedback?
I definitely think you need to do something about the amount of red on your site. Even if your uncle likes it, it makes the page difficult to look at for longer than a few seconds, so will inevitably put off site visitors. Is the Christmas theme intentional? I can't find any reference on it in the content of the page...

List of Recommended Web Design and Development Books
This is one of the most useful books about web design and I think every web designer should read it! Usability and navigation are so often forgotten by designers who focus too much on learning coding and too little time on considering the end user.

Greetings from sunny Brizzle
The website looks good (if a little basic) but agree that you need click throughs to the actual sites in your portfolio. Work experience and offering to design some sites for very cheap to build up the portfolio are the best way to go I think. Demonstrating solid html/css skills and knowing how to implement code within websites is important, as well as usability and typography/design skills. Wouldn't do any courses though, would just read some books and look at nice websites on the internet for inspiration.

Isn't there a way to block a whole site being downloaded? Anyone know?

Drop down tables
Pop up you can create by using behaviours in dreamweaver (if you use dreamweaver that is!), and this is something similar to the kingsolomon page, although would have to be adapted: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/animatedcollapse.htm

Employing a Web Designer
I was approached by an agency in London (I'm London based) and they do the same thing as you are suggesting but take 25% (the designer gets 75%) - which I think is a more realistic figure to expect considering the designer will be doing the majority of the work...

photo album / shopping cart
another option is to create a gallery using an existing template and then just add on free shopping cart software , i.e. http://www.fatfreecart.com/ you can make the buttons which process via paypal, which is obviously also free.

Safari cache
I just noticed that Safari makes a cache image of every single page I browse to and stores it in the Library under cache, com.apple.Safari and then in a folder called Webpage Previews. Right now it's over 600MB and I emptied it 3 days ago... it saves a png and a jpg of every page. Any idea how to disable this?

Hilarious Designer Vs Client Videos
Hahaha, they are so funny!

maintaining websites
Website updates is a great way of keeping clients happy - I have quite a few clients who got so frustrated with their previous web designer not getting back to them about changes that they transferred their website over to me. Happy clients means ongoing work and referrals!
-
When a client tries to become the designer how do you tell them they're messing things up?
Explaining things from a usability perspective is a good way to convince clients - noone wants to hear that their webpage will become less user friendly! It also means you don't have to insult their 'design skills'! This is much harder in graphic design as it simply comes down to preferences...

Employed & Self Employed?
Make sure you get good advice on what expenses you can deduct as a self-employed person as it can save you on quite a bit of taxes...

Would like to get some particular feedback on this site please.
I like the overall design and the colour combinations. Also think that you could make the grey a bit darker and I would make the whole design a little bit wider, giving everything a bit more space (looks a tiny bit cramped at the moment).

Feedback on frontpage wanted
I think it's quite a nice design but a little bit bright for my liking. Although the yellow is nice, having so much of it on the site can be overwhelming and makes it hard for people to know where to look first.
