  1. As the title suggests, I have a Cron job running every few minutes - to manage the sending of emails produced by the PEAR mail_queue script. Thing is, the script is producing tiny tiny files, of 1 byte in size, in the root folder of the server. I know this is produced by the cron job because the filename of the files is identical to the filename of the .php file being run - but the file extension is a number. Any idea on why these files are being produced and, more importantly, how I can stop them? Its really frustrating because it fills my server space up really really slowly but persistently and it takes ages to delete the many thousands of files. Thanks in advance.
  2. All, I take back my comment about their service. Being contacted through a 3rd party forum - that's pretty good. FYI, the problem still exists but is being investigated by both Xilo and Google.
  3. Mr Xilo! Thanks - I'll dig out the ticket number. Cheers.
  4. It IS cPanel. But the all the error logs tell me is that I haven't defined an error page for an HTTP 406 error within my .htaccess file! It gives me no clue as to why the 406 error is happening in the first place!
  5. Unfortunately, I don't have direct access to the error logs (I don't think). Only Xilo can provide me with these, and they're being utterly crap at replying to emails.
  6. Xilo has recently introduced a few new security measures on their hosting service. One of them is the installation of Suhosin. At the same time, a website that I maintain has stopped working with Google Carts. The Google integration reports states that whenever it tries to connect to my site, it receives an HTTP error code 406. I've never seen this before. Any thoughts on this? I need to fix this site ASAP. I have found a few suggestions stating that it could be a problem with permissions within the mod_security module, although I am unable to reconfigure this module via .htaccess or altering the php.ini file, as Xilo does not provide me with permissions to do this. I'm a bit stuck! Thanks in advance.
  7. Hmm. It seems at the beginning of October they slammed down a few new security measures and one of them was to stop phpinfo() from working. I really just wanted it to see what modules were installed on the server. I have another problem with these new security measures too. I'll create a new thread. Thanks.
  8. If you've never done anything like that before then you've got alot of learning to do before you can create a website that does all those things. I'd use PHP and SQL. Learn about server sessions for the logins. Learn about either PayPal or GoogleCarts for the payment options. Then, if you want to automate interfaces between the payment gateway and the website, you'll also have to swot up on API interfacing. Good luck!
  9. This code... <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors', '1'); echo phpinfo(); ?> is returning a 500 server error. Any ideas why??! Hosting is with Xilo.net Thanks.
  10. Can I add to this question? Is there SEO benefit to exploiting .htaccess to create more user friendly links? eg. Instead of http://www.abc.com/about.html using http://www.abc.com/about/ ?
  11. Hey, relax. I'm just saying! I remember building an image upload form but it didn't work. I spent ages trying to figure out what was wrong with the PHP when I suddenly realised I'd forgotten to include enctype. So, y'know, I'm not being facetious. I'm just telling you to check all your coding.
  12. I just used the form to send you a test email. See if that work. I think it did. AND I did it from ie8...
  13. There aren't any ie8 problems with mailing that I know of, but I don't tend to submit emails in that method. Having actual email addresses in the code like that makes your site vulnerable to spamming. So, if you have the know-how, I would submit the form to a seperate page which emails you without displaying the email address anywhere. You'll need server-side scripting to do this... have a search around t'internet for info. There's loads of resources available advising you on how this is done.
  14. Take this... <table width="300" border="0" rules="all" id="Table"> <tbody><tr> <td width="58" align="left">BBQ</td> <td width="24"><label> <input type="checkbox" value="Yes" id="BBQ" name="BBQ"/> </label></td> <td width="81" align="right">Hog Roast</td> <td width="20"><label> <input type="checkbox" value="Yes" id="HogRoast" name="HogRoast"/> </label></td> <td width="56" align="right">Bar</td> <td width="35"><label> <input type="checkbox" value="Yes" id="Bar" name="Bar"/> </label></td> </tr> </tbody></table> And turn it into this... BBQ<input type="checkbox" value="Yes" id="BBQ" name="BBQ"/> HogRoast<input type="checkbox" value="Yes" id="HogRoast" name="HogRoast"/> Bar<input type="checkbox" value="Yes" id="Bar" name="Bar"/> Its just the same but without the table cells. You will obviously have to change the code from this - its not presentable. But it shows that the problem is due to table cells.
  15. Does Heart not offer parked domains? Can Jotto not just register a domain name and point it to a parked domain on his existing Heart package? I think £30 per year is alot of money for a site which looks like it only requires a few MB...
  16. Its something to do with the fact that you have a table in a table (probably in another table). Use Firebug in FF and you can easily remove the table cells and see the problem. Just remove the multiple Table layering and you'll be fine.
  17. Hi Jotto. I offer a very simple package. £1 per month for 20MB server space and 200MB bandwidth. From looking at your previous project website, this would probably be plenty for you. I'm offering very cheap hosting because I provide very little server space. But it would be ideal for your requirements. Full MySQL, PHP, unlimited email accounts and even Cron support included. Follow the link... http://www.goodworkjim.com/hosting/
  18. There's definitely a strong Asian influence in your background images! I like the images. But the advise above is good - get it coded up well and remove the high reliance on tables to position your page. I'll reiterate the advise above - use those links on XHTML and CSS. It'll improve your site drastically.

Oh, you know. The BIG posters. Those whose ass I should kiss to get some favours around here.
  20. TBH, I would look into learning at least the basics of PHP. It is an invaluable skill if you're breaking into the world of web design.
  21. Famous last words. I've said that many a time and then found I'd done something really daft.
  22. What do you reckon? If you are advertising freelance web designing and cheap hosting, how would you do it? Local flyering? Cold calling? Selling your soul? Or just splashing out on Google Ads?
  23. Hi all. I've just signed up and browsing around. Strange... a forum where people aren't flaming each other all the time!!
  24. Ditto on Joomla being complicated. It is very good, but very complicated.
