hey all you jQuery ninjas, My GF is building a wordpress for her photography, so has a theme that uses an image carousel on the front page. Works fine in Chrome and IE, in firefox its completely empty - no content at all. I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is. I found the sandbox theme really good to get to grips with wordpress styling, its completely bare, has no background images or colours etc built in, allowing you to make all the styling from scratch. The only styling it comes with is a choice of 1,2 or 3 column layout (if i remember right). It generates multiple classes for each item, so you can easily target both general and specific items on the page. To find it just type 'sandbox' into the 'find themes' search box

Hi Adam, My partner runs a small handmade jewellery business and has pretty much the same requirements, we use bigcartel and are very happy with it - its ideal up to about 100 products, depending on which option you choose, and is easy to use. You can also style it yourself and customise the CSS etc. I customised the site for my partner at teastained.co.uk (work in progress), let me know if you get one and need a freelancer to style it Steve

Hi tery, I had to work through this recently, basically what happens is that the flash player is positioned over the web page automatically as it a separate application to the browser (as far as I understand it). You need to add a window mode parameter to tell it to sit in the doc flow, try adding <param name="wmode" value="opaque" /> inside the embed tag. more info here

Submitting your site with a sitemap is the best start to getting crawled, even so it can take a couple weeks or more to get crawled by Google. It's a frustrating wait after you've put all that work in. Double check your htaccess file if you have one just in case, tho its pretty unlikely it would cause you a problem.

Do you want the three links to be consistently positioned in each div, regardless of the content? If so use absolute positioning. To place each element absolutely within the larger divs (as oppose to absolutely relative to the window), you will need to declare the larger divs as position:relative; then declare the anchors as a block element as mentioned above, and absolutely position them within the larger divs.

Hi Anakowi, I think the site is looking OK, don't be too hard on yourself. Theres a couple of declarations that are probably giving you trouble with the banner: height:140px; in #banner, whilst all half decent browsers read this as height (well duh), IE6 reads it as 'min-height' so it can add height to fit content if it feels like it. position:fixed; is also not understood by IE6, which instead renders it as position:static; which is no help at all. To render it as position:absolute; in IE6 only, add _position:absolute; (note the underscore) underneath. this won't allow for a fixed banner in IE6, but will keep it where you want it. Clean code is paramount in any job where somebody else might need to make adjustments to what your doing, I've been working recently on tidying up glitches in old pages where the previous coder has accidentally left in extra <div> tags - if the code is clean and formatted you can find these errors in minutes, if its a mess and a big page it can take hours. There will always be the odd bug in old pages, it makes sense for companies to allow the time to write good code so that there are fewer mistakes in the first place and when adjustments/fixes need to be made they take as few man hours as possible. I love Notepad++, for some reason I just seem to write tidier code with it, I think DW makes my formatting lazier.

WAMP is a server, but it does not include a built in mail server, to test your form you need to set up a local mail server, I've used Argo before, but there's a bunch to choose from. You will only be able to send mail locally, so you also need to set up thunderbird or another mail client to receive your test mail. It sounds like a lot of work but it's not too hard.
