April 2, 201610 yr Hello folks- i need your help, i was desinger a wordpress website using the localhost server (XAMPP) and i have managed to create this website. Now the issue is that i was learning how to migrate this website from the localhost to a free hosting live server; Here are some of the steps i performed; Step 1: i exported the local database by accessing the http://localhost/phpmyadmin and i clicked on the database which i was working on and clicked on "Export". From there i secelected the "Quick method" and then i Clicked on "Go" to export the database in the download folder on my machine. Step 2 :i replaced the paths to all files in the database by opening the exported database with the Notepad++ text editor using the Replace feature i replaced the http://localhost/wordpress to http://zachados.5gbfree.com:2082 Step 3: After that i created the new database from the cPanel of the web hosting by assigned the database name as: zachados_wordpress Username as: zachados_Zac and the Password:.......... Then after i clicked on phpMyAdmin in the cpanel of my hosting and clicked on "import" after opening the phpMyAdmin to import the database file which i exported from the localhost. Step4:I Fixed wp-config.php by opening the wp-config.php and wp-config.php file on your local machine. Edit lines: define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘wordpress’); to zachados_wordpress define(‘DB_USER’, ‘Zachariah’); to zachados_Zac define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘your_database_password’); Step 5:Transferring website files I try to transfer the website files using the Filezilla as my FTP client tool but the issue is that its was failing to start or start the connect and here are a copy of the errior message it was rendering: Status: Resolving address of ftp.zachados.5gbfree.com Status: Connecting to 209.90.88.135:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Status: Initializing TLS... Status: Verifying certificate... Status: TLS connection established. Status: Logged in Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: PWD Response: 257 "/" is your current location Command: TYPE I Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (209,90,88,135,198,244) Command: MLSD Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing Status: Disconnected from server Status: Resolving address of ftp.zachados.5gbfree.com Status: Connecting to 209.90.88.135:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Status: Initializing TLS... Status: Verifying certificate... Status: TLS connection established. Please i need your help or simple ways of which i can you to move the localhost website to a live server. I really thank your help Regards Zachadoshas
April 2, 201610 yr You say you are using Filezilla. Go to the edit menu and press settings. Under connection you can change the default 20sec to 120 sec
April 2, 201610 yr Author Sorry Nillervision for troubling you but now i have started encountering this error: Status: Initializing TLS... Status: Verifying certificate... Status: TLS connection established. Command: USER ftp Response: 421 Can't change directory to /var/ftp/ [/] Error: Could not connect to server
April 2, 201610 yr I'm not sure what is causing this you might be able to get an answer on filezilla forums. https://forum.filezilla-project.org/ This procedure usually works for me Go to the Site Manager in Filezilla: (ctrl+s) Create a new connection (or edit the existing if you already have it stored) Under Host type ftp. followed by either the domain or ip type 21 in the Port field Select FTP in the Protocol (for standard ftp connection) Under Encryption select "Use explicit FTP over TLS if available". Under login type select Normal and enter the username and password Click Connect
April 2, 201610 yr Author Nillervision thank you i will try your producedures first and if it fails then i will find out from the filezilla forums
April 2, 201610 yr Author I have tried following all the steps above, step by step but still i was unsuccessful and also tried to the filezilla forum but i am failing to register to their forum because of 'Temporarily blocked for excessive spam."
April 2, 201610 yr It seems that you are migrating a Wordpress website. Migrating Wordpress is much more difficult than simply copying the files and database, because your URLs, references to images, backgrounds, stylesheets etc. are stored in serialized data fields inside datasets in the database. These cannot easily be changed manually. For that reason I recommend that you use a plugin like "Duplicator". It will make the migration much easier and save you a lot of trouble with the FTP upload process that you are currently experiencing. Link: https://en.wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
April 2, 201610 yr Author Bitpalace thank you Yes i want to migrate wordpress website. Let me try the Duplicator and i will come back for anything Regards Zachadoshas
April 2, 201610 yr A second vote for Duplicator. It's an excellent plugin. But you may still struggle to move your site. The free hosting you are using appears to restrict FTP access so uploading your database may never succeed - it will timeout before the duplicator files get uploaded.
April 2, 201610 yr Author hello fisicx which one can you recommend me to use ( free web hosting service) Regards Zachadoshas
April 2, 201610 yr Why has it got to be free? You can get decent hosting for very little. In the UK good cloud hosting is available for under £30/year.
April 4, 201610 yr Author Hello fisicx The reason i want to use a free hosting is that, the website its for learning not something much important about the content of the website
April 4, 201610 yr In which can you will have to live with the limitations of a free hosting plan and not be able to move your site from the localhost to the server. If it's just a learning exercise, why not just leave the site on your computer?
April 4, 201610 yr Author Hello fisicx I want wanted to have experience on how to do this and as a way of learning, but Thank you for your help
