Which social network to start with?

Featured Replies

Or none of them. Nobody cares about your brand. All they care about is the service you offer. And unless it is something different to everyone else none of the SM sites are going to be of much use.

I suppose they could give you something to do while your competitors invest in some proper marketing.

SM can sometimes work if other people talk about you. It doesn't work if you talk about yourself.

In respect of the OP, nobody cares. A brand is something you develop over the years through great products and service. It's not something that happens because you post on facebook. It's the mistake many startups make.

Yes I agree that a brand is built up over time, but when you first start you will still likely want to use social media to help build that brand... It has to start somewhere.

Except it doesn't work. Social media is great if you want to tell your mates about stuff your like. It's useless if you want to tell strangers about your stuff.

Even if people find and notice your posts there is almost no engagement. The exception is if you have something really unique and special that people are interested in. But even then the message gets spread through shares and retweets and whatever not by what you the business owner posts.

That doesn't have to be entirely true in my opinion. Otherwise small and medium businesses wouldn't hire social media marketing teams / managers and the whole social media marketing field would not exist.

Social presence is important, it's gone way beyond "telling your mates about stuff you like", likes, shares, retweet and followers. Social media, when done right, does indeed generate leads, more business and brand / product awareness.

I have seen the above happening and I have also seen it failing. So, in conclusion, "Social media doesn't work" is kind of a broad statement, as one size doesn't fit all.

There's statistical evidence that proves - without doubt that there are many cases where it does work.

Which is why I said:

The whole social media marketing thing has gone the same way SEO went. There is a whole army of people offering this service to people who believe posting daily on facebook or tweeting a 2pm on a wednesday will actually make a difference. It doesn't.

And for many businesses social media won't ever help. If you hire out cement mixers to local builders a facebook page isn't going to achieve anything. But if you are a local butcher you can use SM to tell existing customers about a deal on pork sausages.

My opening post in this thread was specifically about the OPs question. Creating a load of SM accounts isn't going to help his business.

Without any doubt the best social network in nowadays is Facebook. It has 2-Alexa rank.

Within the context of the Ops post,

Will you, please, advice which social network to choose for your brand or is it more effective to be present in all of them?

That would depend on the which social media channel is most effective for their brand, as Teodora and Robert has indicated or pointed out earlier on the thread.

In my opinion, following all social medias is quite difficult. If you have selected specific social medias then it will be easy for you to manage these social medias on a daily basis for the promotion of your product or brand. So, just focus on specific social networks for brand building.
