Hi, i'm working on my website about technlolgy & science (sort of a blog but it looks more like a real website)
Website: NerdyFuture

So it's not completely finished but I know kind of what i want to add to the site. Like a Facebook wall next to the latest news(etc..).
Little bit more of user usability like sharing buttons under every article. What do you guys think i should add to the site?
Or do you think me site is not good at all? Let me know.

Before adding anything else, if I were you I would review the design and also the fact that there seems to be big issues in other browsers, well, at least in firefox anyway.

which version of Firefox are you using?

I have the latest version of Firefox, one thing I have not come across in years in coding but I have seen is a difference in how a Mac and windows interprates it, I am on a Mac, so whether that is the only influence I don't know.

yeah i think that's probably the problem, i made the website on windows 7. I have no mac, pretty much no Apple products at all, how can i fix this isue?

Maybe it's not just Firefox, seems to be the same issue on my iPad which makes me think it's a resolution problem, as the main issue is the text not staying contained in the box.

 

Try removing height property on the containing box.. I am assuming there is one, then add a clear div and sone padding.

It should look like ScreenShot2. (Well on almost every browser on windows).

Well i fixed most of it, now I only have to fix the grey header. How does it look now?

Looks better, aside from my original comment that the overall design needs a lot of work lol

what would you suggest, how can i improve the overall design?

There are so many issues, I can tell you what you should do but I can't tell you, change this or that

 

Look at other websites, especially those that are the same type as yours

Look at fonts

Look at colours

Look at images

Look at layouts

 

Choose things with a reason, if you are picking a font or a colour, why are you choosing it? What does it mean? What combination of the Colour or font works? If you were using the website, what would make things easier for you.

 

Make it so that when you go to the site, you know exactly what it is, don't assume people will know, make it obvious. Look into grid layouts and structure.

 

Those are a few to get started with but there are many routes to building websites, but they all start with research.

My main concern is how a site like this can compete with major, big budget competitors that have teams of full time journalists and design staff. CNET, BBC News technology section, TechRadar, the tech sections of all the major newspapers etc etc etc. This has to be one of the best served and most highly competitive speciality areas on the internet - you would have to be massively differentiated from the mainstream to build and retain an audience, and without wishing to be brutal, this site isn't.

Yes the overall layout is pretty bad and that includes the color scheme. That green needs to go. It also needs some focus and clearer and cleaner presentation.

I have to disagree, giving the right edge, proper research, time and work, you do not need to be as big as those at all, you simply have to find your audience by finding out who they are and what it is they want.

Most bloggers start out with nothing and against all odds.

If your networking skills are good (i mean human networking) you also have a shot at building an audience.

People don't follow bloggers because they can't get the same information from mainstream websites. But because they like the bloggers personality and authenticity.

 

But right now your biggest concern should be that I can't access your menu. It is covered by the logo (Firefox Windows)

Thank you very munch for the feedback, i got some hope now. So what i am going to change is color(remove the green),font and of course fix that logo issue.

Also (I may sound like a idiot now) but can anyone give me very precise instructions for what to remove or add, how should i display the content more clearer and with more focus?

If we did that we would be designing it for you, we don't know who your audience is and I certainly won't be doing any research to find out, if you want a website, especiallya successful one, you need to put in the time and research to do it, we can only point you in the right direction.

Alright! I will putt more research in it, but can you just tell me one more thing. Does the Web page look beter now compared to the picture above. Did I make a wrong change there?

The removal of anything overlapping when it's not suppose to will always improve the look of something.

I'm seeing a few bugs, (Using chrome) Your logo is overlapping the navigation.

 

Website isn't responsive -- too many people read blogs and articles on mobile now to not provide a responsive solution for them.
