I have a new e-commerce site of 6500 pages which is slowly being indexed by Google. Todate, and over the last month, only 976 pages have been indexed. I have tried adding pages through the Fetch as Google in webmaster tools, but this has not significantly helped. Is it normal for a website of this number of pages to take so long to index?

 

Also when I check webmaster tools, the Dashboard page for URL's Indexed will give me a different result to the Index Status page. Then if I do a site:mydomainname.co.uk this will also give a different result. Any one have an explanation for the different results?

As far as I am aware (and from trials) ...

 

Dashboard > Sitemaps - These are how many pages from each sitemap are indexed.

Dashboard > Index Status - This is a more precise version of the site:www.yourdomain.com check. Note on a site check it usually says 'about X results'.

 

6500 pages will take some time between first being discovered to fully indexed / ranked etc, maybe a few months for 100% complete and even then Google might not index everything if it doesn't feel like it

I have already used my allowance within Fetch as Google in Webmaster Tools.

 

Sitemap has been submitted.

Twitter is pretty solid for getting stuff indexed. Reddit, too.

Generally speaking, just start marketing the website and concentrate on driving traffic to it, and then these links really have google re crawling your website regularly

Use Social Bookmarking in reddit , stumble upon. You can use http://pingomatic.com/. It is very effective.

There are couple of pinging sites... pingler.com for example. I wonder if there's any benefit using multiple sites to ping rather than just one.

You can also check your internal linking. Good internal linking usually helps crawling and indexing.

BTW, site:yourdomain.com search is not very accurate, it also shows pages found in supplemental index, so you'd better try site:yourdomain.com/& instead.

Yes, use social media sites to get all the new pages/important pages in your site to get indexed fast. See that you use pinterest, googleplus, reddit, facebook etc.

Have you integrated your website with WebMaster. Have you created sitemap for the site and linked it with every page?

Google indexing depend on google and your website all pages and content .

Create a sitemap and submit it at Web Master Tools.
This is usually the way to speed up the indexing process.
