September 4, 201313 yr Here's what I'm packing for my web development / design fun! :-DOperating System: Windows 7Notepad ++: I like this program for the macro recorder because sometimes I have to repeat keystrokes all the way down to the bottom or to put SQL Commands on 1 line, or CSS into 1 line depending on what I need it to do. Downside is no multiple Windows Support at the time of writing.Programmer's Notepad: I like this when I do coding in multiple windows.Sublime Text 2: I'm still learning this program, just saw it being used on teamtreehouse.com and thought i'd give it a shot, it looks promising.Simfatic Forms: I use these when I need last minute forms done by my clientele, but typically I code my own forms and still learning to code formsXAMPP: A Great IDE for web development primarily in HTML, PHP, MySQL basic stuff.Texter Portable: Let me as YOU this question, which would you do? Spend 2-3 minutes typing the basic webpage foundation, or just type 1 word and get it all automatically typed in for you in half a second? I use these macros to help me big time.GOLDEN TIP OF THE DAY FOR WEB DEVELOPERS! If you use Notepad ++ along with Texter Portable, you're bound to get a lot done in a fraction of the time. :-)Adobe Photoshop 6.0: Yes I'm aware that I'm using an older version but it still serves me well for the time being. WinMerge: I use this program to compare old code with new code and merge them if I like it. Sometimes I work with awesome developers that teaches me something new EVERY TIME and I have a tendency to review the code and merge them with the current version a lot. What do YOU use for your developing/design needs?
September 4, 201313 yr Interesting setup I use Macs with a Mountain Lion named, Geoff Sublime Text 2 for all my coding (by the way, look into package control. Off the top of my head it's a site called WSBond or something - can't be bothered to look for it . There's a great package called Emmet. Will drastically speed up your code and also learn the Goto function and the multiple cursors and you'll be laughing. I digress... I have a few third party Sass compilers. I won't rattle them all off but the one I was using was CodeKit, but I now just use the terminal. For graphics I use the CS5 suite, before that I was a regular user of Photoshop 7 I won't be making the transition to the Creative Cloud as I'm happy to use Sketch (only for Mac at the moment ) and Gimp. I'd continue to use CS5 though. So many more bits of kit I use but not really relevant to your post. My best bit of designing kit, seriously, is pencils, pens and paper and a calculator (for grids and type). Then the rest is time wasting

Might have to review again... Didn't know you were a Mac guy. Not that it matters, but hence using Sketch I guess. I'm smitten with it. They should port it for Windows users. It's almost like the replacement for Fireworks. Wacom Intuos5? Swine. I've been on a Bamboo for yonks but always wanted to upgrade. Hel-looo eBay...
September 4, 201313 yr I use vim on a linux shell for everything, totally hardcore and probably waste a ton of time however i spend my time mostly editing rather than creating. Looking at trying some framework stuff soon so might have to look at tooling up a bit, would be interested to here what people use on Linux.

The beta initially wasn't great, I switched back within 15 mins. It seems more stable now. I have a few macs at home, but we use PC's at work. I much prefer macs and do my best stuff on it, the only thing I really prefer about PC's are the keyboards. The whole alt+3 thing to get a hash symbol makes me want to go around smashing things. At first I was looking for an Intuos3 because they don't use up as many nibs. V5 is pretty damn good though, I love it. Now that they have new tablets coming out, it's well worth trying to grab a V5 on eBay. Agencies chuck them out at stupid prices, I got mine for under £180 early on because a company was getting rid of them and replacing them with the touch versions instead. Pointless really.
September 4, 201313 yr I didn't have too much of a problem with the beta, just couldn't be bothered to reconfigure as it didn't keep my settings (obviously). I understand what you mean abou the alt+3 thing. My Macs are all from Japan (except my MBP) so I don't need to use alt+3 on them. However... those computers are for design and I seldom need the #. No, I need that on this computer (the MBP) and I had to type alt+3. I did see the touch versions. Not a fan. The best new prices I saw was around £220 but I can't remember if that was the 3 or 5. I was going to get the Inkling, but that's only for sketches really and I'd rather do the old school of scan and ink. Nice concept though and £150 last time I saw.
September 4, 201313 yr You should be able to get the 5 for around £190 now, I've seen them around at that. The touch version is a lot more expensive. If I went with the V3 I still wouldn't be disappointed, I just couldn't get hold of a good condition one at the time that wasn't scratched to death.
September 4, 201313 yr I just couldn't get hold of a good condition one at the time that wasn't scratched to death. As obvious as that sounds, I didn't consider the surface of a used one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/intuos-5-medium-tablet-touch-/271270807562?pt=UK_Collectables_InputDevices_RL&hash=item3f2900080a Hmmmm....
September 4, 201313 yr DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO ITI hope you're feeling the peer pressure. Give in already, get an Intuos5 and have a cigarette too.
September 4, 201313 yr DO IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT I hope you're feeling the peer pressure. Give in already, get an Intuos5 and have a cigarette too. Tempted, but the ring welded to my ring finger will immediately unleash the fear of castration. As for the cigarette... how cruel. I'm on year five now without a smoke (as he takes another swig of the sake...).
September 4, 201313 yr Author WOW, y'all got some very interesting programs, might as well give some of those a shot, but VIM? on a linux box? yeesh, I had a hard time learning it back in college, might as well pull out my wallet and pull out the small CD that's loaded with a live DSL (Damn Small Linux) and do a refresher :-D (All of my configs and stuff I save from DSL are on my flash drive so the system won't get touched upon a reboot to windwos) I'm leaning towards getting a mac for multimedia work soon. :-)

I'm on year five now without a smoke (as he takes another swig of the sake...). You have six days to consider it at least. I wouldn't of thought you were the smoking type. Five years is really good though, I gave up for 5 weeks and eventually got so fed up that I caved in. I only really did it because I was seeing a girl that didn't like smokers but when that turned sour I thought f*** it. I'm leaning towards getting a mac for multimedia work soon. :-) You won't regret that decision. There nice machines to work on.

I always got the guilt trip, but I said I'd stop when I was ready (I didn't want to stop). I do get the urge to smoke but have a clearer head now. Besides, I have a little girl and some tropical fish to take care of

November 2, 201312 yr Well, mine is: - Window 7 - Design: Photoshop 5 ( I dont like 6 version 'cause they take too much for the RAM and always stop working when I use to render sth, but is there exits a version 7 ? ) - Coding: Notepad++ of course, with some add-ons plugins to made it professional ( just use black theme, lolz ). Actually I just code HTML and CSS, not php or sth like that. - I'm using a laptop, Sony Vaio
November 4, 201312 yr mac & pc: sublime, fetch, gists and emmets. easyPhp & mamp fw and ai less & prepros filezilla, transit & Dropbox. and alfred for mac, is the only thing I can't do on pc
November 9, 201312 yr In my current role as a developer I do very little design apart from my input on the product specification. The tools I use: Photoshop, Sublime text-2 as my code editor. WinLess as my Less compiler Xampp for Apache & SQL for local development MINGW32 as my console for git and ssh, Use Nano for small live edits on the server. Bootstrap 3 as my css & js framework - but heavily stripped down and customized for my needs. I also have my own base template setup including things that are common to all projects to help projects get up and running as fast as possible. Edited November 9, 201312 yr by rbrtsmith
December 11, 201312 yr My tools: Windows PC - NetBeans, XAMPP, FileZilla, Sublime Text 13" Macbook (2008) - Coda, XAMPP, Sublime Text/TextMate Used to have a 20" iMac and just lived in Coda, but unfortunately it went to a better place.
December 11, 201312 yr Windows PC: 28" LCD, Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch WAMP, Sublime Text 2, Dreamweaver/Photoshop/Illustrator CS6. Skeleton CSS framework (responsive version of 960 grid) but want to pick up SASS once I get some spare time.
December 12, 201312 yr Heres mine: 15" MacBook Pro Sublime Text with SFTP (no need for filezilla now), emmet, jslint etc. Terminal GitHub Kuru Toga mechanical pencil Sketch Pad Closed Headphones (great for stopping outside noise) multiple JS, PHP, Ruby books current .net magazine to hand on desk for inspiration/infomation iMac with photoshop/illustrator should I need a larger screen.
December 23, 201312 yr Dell XPS-13 with Linux Ubuntu Bamboo tablet (on loan) 22" monitor (BenQ) SublimeText 3 with Emmet Mercurial for my stuff, Git for others. Compass/SASS, AngularJS, jQuery I'm a developer, not a designer, so it's coding all the way for me.
December 23, 201312 yr Operating System: Linux Ubuntu / Windows 7 (for when access to Fireworks / Photoshop is needed) I have 2 machines I develop on, a laptop which I got back in the day and a PC I built myself. PHPStorm Terminal; (Node, SASS, Git, Grunt) etc Vagrant (create a VM which runs as a server, can customise the setup to different PHP versions, etc) - quite resource hungry, so only used on Desktop XAMPP Fireworks / Photoshop Edited December 23, 201312 yr by Yakindo
