@@cheerry111 Your junky website doesn't work.
And @@Brandytistic, I forgot to say, if you've got time, give "How to win friends and influence people" (the book) a read. It's really useful for any freelancer to read and it's helping me a great deal. Don't let the title fool you, it's a book about business.

There are some clients that I work with that don't want me to design something for them, they want to dictate their ideas and basically have me create them for them, no matter how bad they may look. While I try to suggest otherwise and work around their poor suggestions, sometimes you'll just have to ask them exactly what they want and make that.
Also, this thread is more difficult if you don't post pictures because we can't tell what you're making or talking about.

nguyenhce reacted to W1LF in Wordpress design/ re-designWell as a wordpress template web designer
I think you should know the basic wordpress function in codex
I think you should watch screencasts on youtube how to make basic wordpress theme
that will be easy to communicate with the coders
and you'll ready to go

nguyenhce reacted to WilliamsGraphics in Wordpress design/ re-designThe best advice I can give for new wordpress themers is to make the site as if you were making a regular site. Make the website exactly as you would want it WITHOUT the wordpress hooks and data pieces, then once you're done, it's just a case of going in and reverse-engineering it as you would want using the excellent documentation of wordpress and its community.
Once you've learnt to do one, you'll soon learn how to build wordpress functionality into your site as you build it. It truly isn't as hard as some people would have you believe.

Use the css3 property @font-face, here is a great resource for learning how to use it http://nicewebtype.com/notes/2009/10/30/how-to-use-css-font-face/

nguyenhce reacted to Jack in Question about SASSIt's easy to get carried away with Sass. If you're not familiar with modular CSS or best practices, your Sass documents are going to reflect that. You're probably going to see deeply nested items, a lot of variables with meaningless names ect. I always recommend that people do it the traditional way first, get proficient at that, and go from there. Some of the more advanced Sass syntax is more likely to go over a beginners head, compared to writing it vanilla first, it is dynamic after all.

nguyenhce reacted to rbrtsmith in Javascript & JQueryI Second what the others said above. jQuery is not a language by itself, it is a framework running on top of Javascript that that significantly reduces development time and complexity. It is possible to learn just jQuery, but it is a really bad idea to go down this route.
All the syntax you write literally is JavaScript, the dollar sign is just a variable name pointing to the jQuery object.

nguyenhce reacted to rbrtsmith in Best way to learn HTML?https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/ is a very good place to start. A million times better than W3 Schools and free!
http://www.css-tricks.com is also a great free resource.
It looks a bit overwhelming when you first visit but you can see the little nav on the left hand side titled Web Platform, that's where you want to begin.

nguyenhce reacted to BrandableWeb in My 2nd websiteI agree with the poster above. The first screenshot is a really nice look, but for a store site the second is better to get the shopper right in to look at the items for sale. Since it is a screenshot, I am sure it is easier to read in the site, but the letter seem very light and I would just make sure that the light color will be easy to read on a smaller screen.

nguyenhce reacted to rbrtsmith in Best way to learn HTML?W3School is NOT the best place to learn HTML CSS or anything for that matter. It's not even a good resource in fact.

nguyenhce reacted to Wynn in Need a little help here (CSS)Did you remove the space before hover?
.work figure:hover dl { opacity: 1; } -
nguyenhce reacted to Wynn in Need a little help here (CSS)You'd need to add the vendor prefixes, (I didn't realise chrome, safari and opera still relied on -webkit-)
.one { -moz-transform: translateX(-200px); -ms-transform: translateX(-200px); -webkit-transform: translateX(-200px); transform: translateX(-200px); } .two { top:100px; -moz-transform: translateX(200px); -ms-transform: translateX(200px); -webkit-transform: translateX(200px); transform: translateX(200px) } figure:hover .one { -moz-transform: translateX(0); -ms-transform: translateX(0); -webkit-transform: translateX(0); transform: translateX(0); opacity: 1; } figure:hover .two { -moz-transform: translateX(0); -ms-transform: translateX(0); -webkit-transform: translateX(0); transform: translateX(0); opacity: 1; } -
nguyenhce reacted to rbrtsmith in Need a little help here (CSS)I second what Wynn has said. Properties such as css transforms are hardware accelerated and you will get a smoother transition than adjusting the left.or right positioning. You don't need to worry about backwards compatibility as the transition timing to give the animation is also ignored by these browsers (IE8 for these you just target them with the right / left property if the element being moved is critical to your design / function.
-
nguyenhce reacted to Wynn in Need a little help here (CSS)You have a couple of typos
.work figure: hover dl { opacity: 1; } figure:hover .one { right: :0px; opacity: 1; } consider using transform: translate, rather than absolutely positioning your elements (for animation).
http://jsfiddle.net/rBV9j/
- needs cleaning up, I just added the translate

nguyenhce reacted to 4D Hosting in My 2nd websiteHi,
I am guessing the nav in the first image are drop downs? I would put a left hand navigation bar to make the sections easily accessed.
I would also have a basket at the top right which (if your an international ecommerce site) have currency options, and an item counter.
I would move the search bar to the right.
To make the bottom nav clearer I would have them in sections with titles
I would also enable social sharing 'I like this item at this shop' type of stuff.
Hope this helps!

nguyenhce reacted to unbotttled in What do you think about 99designs ?Freelancer.com is good, the only thing is to actually get a job you may have to invest a little before doing so as they provide tests to prove your skills and to take these tests you will have to pay. The payment isn't that much, something like 5$ per test but still, its a payment. I've heard of Elance but I have never tried it, just go on there and have a look around. Also search Google for any other reviews etc.

nguyenhce reacted to unbotttled in What do you think about 99designs ?To be honest its pretty useless, I used to try and win competitions and I spent hours on logos but unless you are amazingly skilled at web design and can create perfect logos, you are never going to compete with contenders that have professional teams doing the work. I did over 50 designs for people and only made it to a final twice with 20+ five star ratings...
Best advice is try and avoid it.

nguyenhce reacted to VincenG in My 2nd websiteHello,
Well, the first one looks better, but as an e-commerce shop site i would choose 2nd. I don't see big problems with it (i don't understand the language so i can't say what could be done about the navigation), maybe you could work a little bit on the banner image. And you could use a little bit more colors, as i can see the text and layout borders colors are the same, you could change that a little bit.

nguyenhce reacted to mantis in My web layoutOverall very nice but there is a slight alignment problem with the typography. I am a big fan of whitespace but it could use a bit more colour or contrast (perhaps the background?) to bring the eye to the essential content.

nguyenhce reacted to Afoxat in My web layoutIt's really nice but I'd change background color under navigation or add shadow... I don't know - it is too grey there but it's only opinion .
