August 6, 201313 yr Oh.. I remember making an animated flash banner for one company to put it on a successful local search engine's site... All was looking nice and easy untill I was reading through the sites requirement: Flash player 6 as the newest accepted version Also... IE... how the hell are you suposed to make that thing access the clipboard for images and not just text.
August 6, 201313 yr I've applied for around two dozen jobs over the past two months in web development, all of which I'm capable/qualified to do. All but one have been posted by recruitment agencies, and funnily enough, it was the one and only one posted by the actual company that gave me an interview and short-listed me. So this leads me to believe, am I somehow doing something wrong when applying for jobs posted by agencies? I'd like to contact the companies advertising directly, but no details are given. This is also the case with Monster, TotalJobs etc. Any tips? Oh, just to coincide with the topic theme, grrrrr, mumble grumble, humbug, stupid agencies, stupid employers, grrr. When we are hiring, we go always directly. Never saw a person found by agency we would be willing to hire. And to be honest we first ask the employees if they know someone who would fill the position. They never bring anyone who wouldn't be up to the task or who would be slacking off - as they would be the ones dealing with it. I only went through selection proces like two times in my life. The usual way is that someone who know me is asked if he knows someone who could do this or that - and they send them to me. From the other side, when I was applying for the job, the only companies that made sence contacting were those looking themselves or outsourcing companies. Recruitment agencies doesn't care for what you can do, just if they can sell you. And they sell you like a new phone - listing up your perks "camera, touchscreen, ram, resolution, msd, storage,....". Unfortunatelly, a lot of those recruitment guys have no clue what your proffession needs so they select those who list all the skills client requested and select those who have more "extras". When we delt with recruitment companies briefly it felt like the selection process went the "IT Crowd" way.
August 12, 201312 yr Not really web related, but I was still pissed off. Basically I went to the cinema to see that Alan Partridge film, but first I had a bunch of hassle at the counter, just trying to get some popcorn and a coke. I asked for a small for both and the girl at the counter said that it was cheaper to up-size, but I said no. She kept asking me as if I didn't understand what I was talking about. I don't want 1.5 liters of coke and a shopping bag of popcorn. I didn't even want anything but I was queuing and it took ages, so I thought screw it. These people do my head in.
August 18, 201312 yr Client of yesteryear got in contact to say they can't access their site. They keep changing the password then forgetting it - immediately. I just don't get it. Starting to take it's toll on a Sunday now... The best way I can explain the 'issues' is having selling someone a car, driving it with them to their home then getting a call the following week saying the car won't start as they can't find the key. Holding back a bit of the rage on this one.
August 18, 201312 yr I had a software for organising passwords (built by the dev I worked with). I would have recommended something like this to the client. Other than that, I don't get it either, there are many ways to save your password, or even use the link Forgotten password, which usually comes with login forms.
August 18, 201312 yr Yeah - this was literally a couple of minutes having changed it. They would get an email to change the password. After logging in, they'd change the password then a minute later they would say they can't login as password not accepted. Madness. I said to even write it down but there just isn't any signs of comprehension - quite worrying really.
August 23, 201312 yr I don't have to moan about this spam email, it made me laugh. Dear Sir or Madam,Greetings from yongkang Jialemei Industry and Trade Co.,Ltd.We are producting the rechargedable grass trimmer. If you are interesting, please let me know anytime. Note the spelling mistake in bold and the ridiculous product.
September 9, 201312 yr Trying to listen to an album that has just come out, in the office with headphones on, but I keep getting asked questions, phone calls ect. It's one of those I want to be left alone days, and I'm not getting any of it. So bloody annoying as I've got loads to do.

September 9, 201312 yr What are you listening trying to listen to? Arctic Monkeys - AM So far I've spent the morning setting someones computer up, email, windows SBS ect. All I want to do is finish our new site!!
September 9, 201312 yr Ah, the Arctic Monkeys. Used to like them until they 'matured' I still think they're alright, but don't really listen anymore. Is it worth listening to? Setting computers up is so much fun - especially if they're Windows machines... Hardly anytime at all. Yeah, right. Good luck with getting the site done. Have they set a deadline for it? My little grumble is about yours truly. Wish I had allocated a bit more time to jQuery. Would probably be able to explore a few more avenues than just CSS and plugins all the time. I think I know what I'll be doing the weekend.

I think I know what I'll be doing the weekend. Not sure, I haven't been able to listen to it yet I actually prefer their mature stuff. Suck It And See has some pretty heavy songs on it, Humbug was quite a psychedelic album in parts, and Matts best drumming. I really like Favorite Worst Nightmare though, it's just good all round. has been out for a while, it's track 2 from their new album. When I practice drums I usually start with this, I like the small drums fills and changes (not as many as Cardiacs though ). Setting up computers is a nightmare, especially on our network. There's no deadline yet, It's basically done though.
September 13, 201312 yr I've had a client emailing me about this today.Basically, she can't fill in the Captcha code. It's pretty simple (only 4 digits or less, not one of them mental re-captcha ones). I can't 'check' because they get randomly generated. You can't make this sh*t up. SO hard to decipher, can you please check and also send me a simpler version ofthe code, thanks. It's a captcha, not Egyptian hieroglyphics for FFS!
September 13, 201312 yr I gotta side with the client on this one. I mean, is that a 6, or a duck?! I GIVE UP ON LIFE.
September 13, 201312 yr She probably hasn't got her glasses on or something.Without glasses: What about captcha questions like 7+2=? I could add something like that, but that means re-writing parts of the form. I'll pick this up again on Monday.
September 13, 201312 yr Ha, ha, I am the same without my glasses In general I like that sort of captcha better (I do hate all captchas, though ) but yeah, we need them...
September 13, 201312 yr Ha, ha, I am the same without my glasses In general I like that sort of captcha better (I do hate all captchas, though ) but yeah, we need them... Contacts for me There's a few hidden input captcha methods, I'll probably roll one of them in.
September 13, 201312 yr I can't see any numbers at all. All I see is a pink cactus in a panama playing scrabble on an inflatable duck. We should have captcha that are magic eye images (remember them?). The best results are granted access, the least imaginative get electrocuted. Only a little.
September 13, 201312 yr Contacts for me Only out of the office, not when I work, because they dry really fast and I don't think they are good for the eyes when working on a computer I wish there was an easy solution, but laser surgery is out of question unfortunately....

I was thinking more along the lines of a magic 8 ball captcha, it knows all. Only out of the office, not when I work, because they dry really fast and I don't think they are good for the eyes when working on a computer I wish there was an easy solution, but laser surgery is out of question unfortunately.... I wear them all the time. Probably shouldn't. I might look at laser, it's pretty scary though so I'd have to do it drunk.
September 13, 201312 yr I wish there was an easy solution, but laser surgery is out of question unfortunately.... I know far too many people that have had it done which makes it really tempting. I think the average Harley St. will charge you a grand an eye. Then again, someone I used to work with said their mum, an optician, said that once she sees a fellow optician opting to do it, then she'd be convinced. Quite interesting. I don't know about y'all, but all my opticians in the past have neither worn lenses or had laser surgery. I was thinking more along the lines of a magic 8 ball captcha, it knows all. The image didn't show I'll gonna have a quick looksie if I can find it on the interwebs.
September 13, 201312 yr This might be a good captcha adaption (just found it looking for that elusive 8ball) http://www.answermejesus.com/ask.asp

Yes, that's how it is - the price is not really that important as your vision is priceless, but it is scary! I wear them all the time. Probably shouldn't. I might look at laser, it's pretty scary though so I'd have to do it drunk. I use to wear lenses all the time - every hour of every day, AND some nights. It's awful what they do to your eyes.

September 13, 201312 yr I'm paranoid now. Better get pissed and do that laser thing ASAP. Maybe not - what strength are your lenses? Do you need to wear them all the time?
September 23, 201312 yr OK today is freaking BT! If for some reason a client ever mentions they currently host with BT then run! Currently all I need is the www record updating to a new ip ... the best they can come up with is full IPS or nothing! To top it off they then tell the clients they will loose their email with an IPS transfer which is scaremongering at best, pure lying if not! Freakin grrrrrr waaaaagh! *raging*
September 23, 201312 yr Maybe not - what strength are your lenses? Do you need to wear them all the time? Oops, I've only just noticed this. Umm I think they're -4 and yeh all the time, 7:30 till about 1:30 in the morning. OK today is freaking BT! If for some reason a client ever mentions they currently host with BT then run! Freakin grrrrrr waaaaagh! *raging* It's amazing how frustrating bad hosts can be. I've got one more site and one domain to transfer tonight then everything is finally with reliable companies. I can't wait!
September 24, 201312 yr Forms. Lots of them. The originals were written using tables. Its going to be a long day...
September 24, 201312 yr Forms. Lots of them. The originals were written using tables. Its going to be a long day... Christ, forms can be so nasty. There's a form on one of our sites that I'm scared to touch.
September 24, 201312 yr Not to mention I have a "real-time-changes-to-design" meeting in an hour! Fun! Edited September 24, 201312 yr by teodora
September 24, 201312 yr Christ, forms can be so nasty. There's a form on one of our sites that I'm scared to touch. I'll have to show you this one. Its an application form in French and its the wordiest f****** thing I've ever seen. Not to mention I have a "real-time-changes-to-design" meeting in an hour! Fun! Ouch! I don't envy you. September 24, 201312 yr I'll have to show you this one. Its an application form in French and its the wordiest f****** thing I've ever seen. Probably best to split it into sections and re write them one at a time, I find that's usually the best way. Otherwise it gets very confusing.
September 24, 201312 yr Probably best to split it into sections and re write them one at a time, I find that's usually the best way. Otherwise it gets very confusing. I'm on the eighth out of 9 sections now. Unfortuately its the longest. Then I have 3 more to do. I must admit it does look a lot better. Not that anyone else will notice.

September 26, 201312 yr Have been designing for a few months now, enjoying what I am doing. So stuck at work though, am building this ecommerce website using Wordpress and the Woocommerce plugin, for some reason my links have stopped working and can not find the correct pages. Feel so burned out, on top of that I am preparing for my driving test, all becoming too much. In need of a holiday!
September 27, 201312 yr E-mail compatibility, that'd be all. *BANG* Do you mean like html newsletters? I hate those worse than forms. Those things are evil. They never do ... unless you do it wrong.
