Yes unless you use a third party gateway (off site) such as PayPal.

But even then you get to PayPal and it's SSL.

Personally we run SSL on the user end to make them feel secure (reassurance) even if the site doesn't take payment on page/server side.

It is highly recommended for any website that takes personal/private data (address details etc) have an SSL installed on the website. Even though you do not need one for using external payment gateways like PayPal I would recommend ordering one with a provider. You can get SSL's pretty cheap these days (£10-£20 a year for a basic one).

Yes, SSL Certificate is necessary for any online business, who is accepting credit card details and other confidential details from their clients. The data transits between the company server and the user's browser will remain confidential with SSL and also enhance the credibility of a Ecommerce website.

Holy crap, I haven't seen SSL certs. this cheap. In a few month I'm starting work for a client with a limited budged and a need for an SSL cert, so thanks for that. How reliable are ClickSSL?

ClickSSL is platinum partner company of leading certificate authorities like RapidSSL, Thawte, GeoTrust and Symantec. ClickSSL never compromises in security though they provide at a cheap rate. You will get the same SSL encryption as you direct buy from certificate authorities. ClickSSL purchases straight from certificate authorities in a bulk so ClickSSL generally provides even these SSL certs at a discounted prices.
