zibizibi got a reaction from AntonioGiansante in Backup solutions
    Hi everyone,

I use Mozy as an automatic backup solution, then I do some manual backup once a month on a local hard drive. But I'd like to skip that manual thing and get instead a second automatic solution.

Do I sound too cautious, or do you guys also have not one but two backup solutions? What do you use?

zibizibi got a reaction from Kaskhautual in Coupon code system
    Hi everyone,

I've been provided a *.csv file containing a list of codes. I must compare the code entered by the client with this list and validate if there's a match, then take out this code from the file so that it can't be used again in the future.

Is it easier to manipulate the file directly (open, read, erase, etc) or to copy the content to some DB table?

zibizibi got a reaction from Fitoalgotte in Timing
I have only the vaguest idea of how long it will take me to complete this or that in web design. Do you guys track how much time you spend on each task? Is this not difficult if you do a lot of mini-breaks throughout the day like me ?

zibizibi got a reaction from Fitoalgotte in Compensation for over-the-scope requests
    Hi everyone,

My client asks more stuff than agreed upon in the contract : sliders, micro content management (content management of multiple zones of the same page), stuff like that, which means perhaps one full working day more than expected. At the same time, he doesn't want to pay more and these features are very important for the project, so I'm looking for other ways of compensation.

One idea I had was a guarantee of further projects in the future (he has 2 more projects on the line). Does it sound like a good idea?

    What else would you consider?

zibizibi got a reaction from Fitoalgotte in Should responsive design make websites more expensive?
    Hi,

I noticed that responsive design, whether it's applied to a website after completion or during development, can be quite time-consuming. Sometimes, a certain page requires a very different layout for lower resolution. And sometimes, I re-build a certain features (a menu for instance) in a different way just for mobile devices, that I set on display:none for desktop screens and display:block for mobile screens. In all cases, it can take from one day of work to several.

And since responsive design, this time-consuming thing, is or will soon become standard stuff, it seems to me that web design process should take more time on average and hence cost more.

Or am I missing something ? Second opinions welcome.

    Hi everyone,

A graphic designer gets enquiries for web design work. He does the graphic part (PSD mockups) while I do the development part. He charges according to time spent, same as me.

But on top of that he wants a 15% finder fee.

What do you think of such arrangement, is it fair ?

    Hi everyone,

A client wants his products to be linked to Google checkout system, with which I'm not familiar. It seems to have a cart system like PayPal that can be quickly implemented : http://checkout.google.com/seller/integrate.html, but has anybody here used it ? Is it really easy or should I expect to spend a whole day just to figure out how to use it ?
