My first website is pretty much ready to go live and I would like some advice on a good, cheap and reliable web hosting service with a decent amount of bandwidth, hosting space and the ability to host multiple domains whilst having all the necessary such as support for PHP and MySQL.

 

I've never used a Web Host before so any additional advice or information is greatly appreciated!

I have used GoDaddy as my hosting server for a few years, and I feel it fits for your situations too. Read more about how to how to choose the right hosting service

lol, Godaddy are one othe worst, so bad they even had their own hate site dedicated to them called "Nodaddy" which I'm sure if you check google cache or the wayback machine will show you all the upset customers and staff ranting about them...

 

Chris, for your needs, there are some things to keep in mind...

 

Are you wanting a budget service, one of those "unlimited everythings, delivers nothing" kind of deals, for example if your not worried about service, support, for example if its not a business website, or would you prefer a more modest, preium service where support and service are top of the list, within reasonable budget amounts?

 

Is your website UK targeted or it doesnt matter?

 

Our hosting for example is more "Premium" service, for those who are fed up moving from one host to another constantly...

We provide freephone for sales AND support too, not just sales, and our plans are geared around zero tolerance on overselling, so you wont find anything running at a snails pace with us.

^ bear in mind that Godaddy's servers are in the USA, if you have a UK audience you're better off using a UK host.

Well my first website is a personal project that I have always wanted to do (even before I got into web design).

 

It's just a website consisting of graphic & web elements such as Wallpapers, Tutorials, Blog posts and other graphic related stuff so it's not serious (I guess) and it can target a global audience.

 

I am on a budget.

Tbh I have been saving all my cash for a car and university fees so cheap is good, very good.

1&1 hosting for UK

 

OVH for france

 

leaseweb for Netherlands

 

had hosting and dedicated servers off all 3 and never had any problems

Just checked out the 1&1 hosting service and they seem quite cheap.

I looked at the 1&1 basic (their 2nd best option) which seems like a good starting point PLUS they take a tri-monthly payment unlike some of the others I seen which take a 3 year payment out in advance.

 

So far it seems like a good start.

 

But do .co.uk and .com hold different weight with Search Engines?

the .co.uk is cheaper but wondering is it worth it for a globally accessible website?

The fact you've just mentioned godaddy and good in the same sentence means for me, you've just lost all credibility for your website.

If your aiming your website at a global audience I suggest you buy a .com domain name.

 

Also if you check out the web hosting offers section you can find several hosts for incredibly low value.
