IN NEED OF URGENT HELP, experience designers help needed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i am new to the site as i have just started producing websites for people and thought i could use some experience and tips from other designers.

RECENTLY, i have been in a sort of dispute with one of my customers over a website i did a few months ago. He wanted a website that was graphic and that had style. I designed alot of the website using dreamweaver but also using photoshop as full images of a page with clickable content selected on dreamweaver.

My customer wanted to get search engine recognition which is available as you enter the key words you want and paragraphs to describe the business (as you all know) .........

...........HOWEVER, he has come back to me saying that because i have designed with photoshop imagery and each page appears as one image (cannot copy n paste certain text), search engines can not automatically pick up every single word from the website. Is this true and is there anyway around it. (as i am not totally sure whether that is correct as i have only ever used keywords manually entered with optimisation)

i am in need of urgent help and would greatly appreciate any given, i apologise for the essay and if its a newbie question.

the website is Top Design Barbers

your help would be much appreciated and hope i can solve this problem as soon as possible

thank you for your time,

Steven

Yes he is right. You should never design a website purely in images, there is no text in the body for the search engines to pick up, therefore the sites on=page seo is drastically damaged.

Totally agree with Roothost and MikeChipshop.

To add, did you get this as a template from a template store? I only ask as in the code there are links to 3 separate template sites...

As already said search engines can't pick up what type of website it is without text content. Title, tags and description help but the content does it. I checked your source code and you don't have a page title (apart from the homepage), tags or description.

You will need to redesign the website to change the text in the image to true text. That is the best solution you have.

Well that was just stupid using only images, yes he is right search engines can't (to the best of my knowledge - highly doubt it) scan an image for text it contains. You will have to do what Josh said above.

Off topic: those drop shadows are way to harsh and the navigation isn't centered, plus what roothost said whats up with the links in the source.

You also have an external stylesheet (good) but you have styles rendered in the main source code too??

This is a case where the client deserves a refund, or at the very least, a recoding.

The quality of this site is far beneath what is needed to sell design and coding services to clients.

Search engines rank pages based off of CONTENT. You can manipulate a bunch of other things, but the ultimate thing you should be focused on is Content. Users benefit, spiders benefit, everyone wins.

Re-do the site in a way that meets professional standards or refund the client.

thank you for all your messages.

the client is a friend anyway so i will do a new website for free anyway. yes i did use a template however only used the background images and header/footer.

it was a favour for both of us as i dont have a lot of experience building websites and he wanted one so we said we would give it a go. In the past i have built simple sites with content etc but my huge mistake was trying to make it so graphic and using photoshop. (which i will never do again :( )

thank you for all your help and il definately learn from this

also note that this forum is nofollow so posting links won't help your cause either.
