Do you have either of these phones?

 

I had an iPhone until yesterday, and then upgraded to a BB Torch. I can honestly say, that from a business point of view, the BB is better. But from a fun point of view... iPhone smashes it!

 

What do you have and what do you prefer?

The way I see it is, BB is the tool for anyone running or trying to run a business as that’s what its designed for, and if you want the iPhone for the apps and something to take up time when needed then just buy the iPod touch, as the iPod 4th gen is basically and iphone without "live" texting and calling, it also a money save on your phone bill

 

This is what I’m aiming to do, and seems likes going to happen sooner rather then later as my ipod screen has just got a ton of cracks over it so, I’m buying the new ipod next week then upgrading my contract for a BB as my phone, seems like the perfect combination to me in all fairness.

Personally I use an iPhone and have done since they were released. For me it made email mobile and texting easy, of course the BB made email mobile ages ago but I had previously been using a Windows Mobile PDA style phone, the type with a stylus (who wants a stylus). Then when the App store arrived and people started making games and social networking apps it pretty much changed the way I do things. They have fun apps but also business apps, eg I have just started managing my servers using remote desktop on my iPhone.

 

I have played with a BB, my mum has one. And tbh I would like to try a different OS, maybe WM7? But your statements have made me wonder why a BB is more focused or better for business?

Well in my opinion (having now had and used both) a BB is better for business as it just feels more intuitive. Like my email accounts took literally 5 minutes to set up all three and now, I get all of my emails through so quickly and easily.

 

The iPhone just had too much going on with it. I can't really explain WHY I think BB is more business orientated... maybe it is just because I don't spend time playing Angry Birds when I should be working

 

Both are excellent phones. But where the iPhone has catered more for students and people who want to have fun on their phone, BB has kept it super simple and made business the key focus.

I suppose if its only a choice of which fruit based phone then I'd choose BB over an iphone. I think I am the only person around who doesnt like apple, I think they're overpriced and pretty poor quality in comparison to other stuff thats available.

The number of students / teens I have on my Facebook flooding my news feed with, 'OMGZ ADD MY BB PIN', really does my nut in. Do none of them realise that BBs are designed for business?! Friggin fads...

Where was the option for andriod?

I didn't think BB's were still taken seriously. The way I see it;

 

Blackberries:

For adolescent females who don't understand that BBM uses Internet so it will cost them more to send a 'free' BBM than for them to use one of their unlimited texts anyway.

For the older/serious businessman who cares little for anything other than emails and the odd text.

 

iPhones:

For us students and young businessmen who have spare money since it's not important yet. Let's be honest here.

For those who want an iPod and needed a new phone at the same time?

 

HTCs:

For the elitists and people who know their stuff.

For a lot of my fellow geeks.

 

Open-Android Phones:

For those who don't care for BBM or apps. They don't know it's Android, but it looks like an iPhone and it's half the price.

 

 

 

Oh, and Nokias/non-Android Samsungs for those who couldn't care less, which I completely understand too.

I'd agree with that Luke. I'm considering Jailbreaking my iPhone 4 - starting to regret getting it to be honest. Bored of the same old locked-down iOS day in, day out

Replace 'iPhone' and 'phone' with 'apple product' and you got it down to a tee! Its become such a craze and "fashion symbol" to own something with the Apple logo on it, its ridiculous, lol. The fashion symbol status is even starting to mask the fact that the products themselves are good, solid products (albeit, pricey, but I won't get that old argument reignited here ).

 

Back on topic however, my contract has recently ended so I'm in the market for a new phone. I was contemplating an iPhone but the contracts are more expensive than I'm willing to pay at the moment, and I don't have an interest in getting a Blackberry. I'm thinking of going for an HTC phone... They seem pretty solid and the contracts I have come across are much more reasonable.

 

I also keep thinking, all I use my phone for at the moment is calling and texting, so do I want to get myself hooked into all these "app"-related shenanigans?! I'm still pure and free of them at the moment, and it'll surely be an extra addiction I could do without

Nothing. I've never said I wanted to do anything extra.

I would, however, like a little more freedom than the iPhone offers.

 

I don't have an interest in getting a Blackberry. I'm thinking of going for an HTC phone...

Good to hear - go for the Desire (HD if you can wait). Such a shame about the lack of the EVO in the UK - can't wait to get our Internet and mobile technologies back up with the rest of the developed world

Blackberry is okay, iPhone is better but, Android is better than the two to me.

I just got an HTC Desire. Must say it rocks. was gonna get an iPhone but after reading reviews and realising there's no "good price" available, I decided iPhone's were over priced and over rated imo.

 

For half the price you can have a phone that it just as powerful and, more importantly, has widgets! WIDGETS! Apparently Android OS is now the most popular on the market, which means Android app market will hopefully grow to be similar to Apple's soon enough.

I have a BB because i hated the idea of an iphone, i have an ipod for my music... For the last year now i've really wanted an iphone, seems to be so much going on and so much to do. My bb is great for emailing and err. The apps haven't impressed me. Mine is a curve a down grade from my much missed N95, the torch looks great though.

I've got a HTC Hero - Android

 

More than happy with it much cheaper than iPhone, does all my emails and browing fine, and as mentioned earlyer widgets are amazing.

Had a HTC Android on an 18 month contract up until a few months ago when I got the iPhone. iPhone wins hands down for me, integrates with my Mac much better than the HTC Android did, that's fairly obvious I suppose. Personally I find it handles email much better as well, but guess perhaps the newer HTC's offer something different to the one mine did. As for BlackBerry, my wife has one, I'm not a massive fan, although I can see it handles email very well.

I don't know anything about phones (they don't interest me) but my work phone is a Samsung Galaxy <something> Android. The workspaces are cool and I have analytics widgets on one of them. Apart from that I fail to grasp the usefulness of apps (for me), sure some of them are fun but unless you can speedtype on the touch screen keypad...

Ive got a blackberry curve and I love it. I only used an iphone for the first time on Sunday though and really liked it, when my contract runs out I dont know which Ill choose. Iphone seems a lot faster and the apps are really good.

Galaxys have Swype don't they? I have it on the HTC Desire and it's awesome. Really is. Don't think I could go back to typing normally now on a phone, probably the next best thing to an actual keyboard.

Personally the amount of apps on my iPhone I use for work, It wouldn't be feesable for me to go anywhere but iPhone.

 

However, My girlfriend just got a HTC Desire (2 I think) and android seems to be stepping up.

It seems their pitch for the teen market went slightly wrong; it worked for them financially, but not for their (*errhmm... *) reputation.

I've had:

 

iPhone

iPhone 3G

 

then I got bored of waiting for the iPhone 4 so I got a Nokia N900 but there isn't the support or apps for it.

 

I just bought my girlfriend an iPhone 4 and it's great makes me want to go back to the iPhone.

Not a massive Apple fan, but the iPhones great. I've got the iPhone 3GS, and it's awesome. I've tried using a Blackberry and having fairly large hands, it's next to impossible to type on unless I invent some kind of thimble with a point on it.

 

It's always nice to be elitist and have something that everyone else doesn't, but in the case of the iPhone, the more people that have them the better. More iPhone means more apps. I hate to sound like the advert, but there actually is an app for everything. To name a few: LogMeIn, TVGuide, Logitech's MouseServer, NatWest, TomTom satnav, Skype, Guardian and BBC news.

 

BlackBerry's have no way near as many apps.
