Is Wordpress any good as a simple CMS ?

Featured Replies

Hi

I know wordpress as a Blog but have been reading about its versatility as a simple CMS also, has anyone had any experience or can you recommend a simple buy effecient CMS. I've tried post nuke etc and they are so structured and difficult to fully customize.

Many Thanks

Ashley

It's great as a CMS. Easy to install and develop and even easier for your clients to use.

Yes it's fairly straightforward to customise, you only have a handful of template files to change and of course the CSS. It's probably one the easier ones out there though like most things everything has a limit somewhere :)

It all depends on what you need your CMS to do. Wordpress is great in that it has hundreds and hundreds of "plug and play" plugins. Wordpress can pretty much do anything. Well, except make coffee, but there's probably a plugin for that somewhere.

Wordpress is a great as a CMS, but you have to remember is was originally intentioned to be a blogging platform. Having said that, the amount of plugins means that it can quickly be turned into a powerful CMS with all the custom functionality you require.

One of the best bits of Wordpress is the API and templating functions, this is more than enough to get Wordpress to look and 'do' everything you need. The bustling community will help you on your way as well ^_^.

All the other major CMS platforms are usually extremely complex (Drupal, Joomla), and often include a lot of functionality that you will never need for a basic website.

It's great as a simple CMS to put pages together, and really quite easy to modify as well, not counting the number of plugins out there. :)

Wordpress gets two thumbs up from my side. So much one can do with it, it is by far the most versatile system I've used yet.

I think WordPress is absolutely awesome in managing contents of a little website (maybe as a personal site) but it's not the right way to make a big site ;)

Wordpress can be used to create small sites, can even be used to a certain extent to create huge sites. I am currently building a site for a client in wordpress which has a shop section,
